Jack Rodwell

He was 80-yards from our goal and was the player furthest back. It was irresponsible of our team to not have anyone on the halfway line. Was a poorly chosen pass, and he did the right thing by backing off. 7/10

Quiet a promising debut,i think he could have taken his chances on couple of occasion, but surely he will get better,6.5 is quiet just i'd say.

He looked ok but seemed unwilling to really leave an impact on the game. Continually passed sidewards and backwards and pass over responsibility to his teammates.

One of the criticism from Evertons fans of him and a similar criticism of De Jong by City fans is they pass sidewards too often slowing down the tempo of the game. Hopefully this was due to nerves and he is more positive in future games.

The mistake is just one of those things. Hopefully it wont affect him. For me there is still space foir a deep lying playmaker in that position such as a De rossi.
Players like Busquets make a career from 200 two yard passes sideways at 97% accuracy in every game.

Good game rodders. Forget the short pass, lescott nearly cost us the league last season.
Must be a toffee thing:)
Or Lescott's winner at Villa was what won us the league ;)

I think there is more to Busquets than that and I also think Rodwell has more to offer. Its all about opinions but for me he wasnt great today but thats not to say he wont be in the future.

We need a better defensive partner for Kompany that is all.I can't see lescott doing well against rooney and rvp.

Rodwell looked sound and assured to me. One stray pass, unfortunately led to a goal. How many stray passes did Silva make? He was way off the pace and you could tell he wasn't match sharp.
Rodwell will be a good squad player

Considering he’s had next to no training time with his new teammates he did a good job today. As others have pointed out he was a little conservative with his passing but that’s to be expected when you have a mixture of debut nerves and unfamiliarity with the movement of your colleagues. I think it was noticeable that he’s going to need a little time to get used to where he positions himself defensively, and up to speed with how we like to press the ball; he didn’t shut down the opposition quickly in the way we’re now used to seeing. All in all though he showed he’s got the attributes to be very good in that role, he just needs time to be taught our style and what is expected of him.

Poor debut by the young lad. What annoys me the most is not the pass that led to the goal, but that he didn't have the brain to just take the yellow card and stop their counter attack. And that goes for the other players close enough to just take the god damn yellow card and stop them.

Just baffling, its like the whole team turned their brain off.

4\10

Could have gotten a 6 if not for the pass who kinda ruined the whole game and let Southampton believe.

There is no way you can give him 7++, there is two players that maybe could get 7, and that is Tevez and Nasri.

Neat and tidy without setting the world on fire. He will be an asset, though, if only because he can play in defence if every required to so so.
