I think one issue last year was there were few games we were comfortably strolling in where we could even consider playing young players. Hopefully with the likes of Delph and Fernando gone it will open up a few slots for the likes of Foden and Diaz to be on the bench. I'd like a few young players to get games in the cups.

I keep banging the drum for 2 of our 7 subs to be 'youth' players, I'd be amazed of it cost us any points over the season.

One of them will win a game for us too. It always happens when teams use a few kids.

I feel Foden and Diaz took their tour chance well. Foden is well documented but Diaz scored 2 goals against 2 top teams (albeit preseason).
Hopefully this will be factored in. Hopefully a more flexible squad with Danilo will negate us needing 2-3 full backs on the bench, which we had at times last year. Seemed pointless to me.

I think Pep was very loyal to our experienced players even if it meant we had mostly defenders and defensive midfields filling our bench.

Think you are spot on. We have 7 subs and as you say can only use 3. This would give us 4 outfield players BUT also give the kids real hope and sense of belonging.
Also if we get 3 goals up they can have the last 20 minutes.
It's unbelievable to think teams coped with 1 sub never mind bloody 7!

That's the core of the problem imo. So many 'safe' selections on the bench in recent years, & players with no future being given 'game time' instead of academy products.

I remember Pep's team hammering Real Madrid & the last goal was two kids linking up. So therefore he had two kids on the bench, v Real Madrid.

Surely he can do the same in some of the lesser games here, considering the adaptability of some of this squad.

The Huddersfield cup replay last season was a perfect example of how pathetic the club have been at giving our youngsters a chance. A home cup game vs a Championship team (who rested most of their usual starting lineup) and Pep didn’t even stick one kid on the bench. Diaz had scored a hat-trick for the EDS vs Chelsea the week before, yet Navas is on the bench and coming on when we’re 4-1 up.

I'm not sure we can do that with Sancho as he hasn't signed a full professional contract and as such he can walk and join whoever he chooses. If he joins an English club the compo will be set by an FA panel.

Thanks Lancs Blue. I was hoping that Sanchonead under contract like one of the earlier posters said. I don't think Chelski got a great deal for Solanke so I guess any compensation will be in the single digit millions.

I agree,Sancho was brilliant,probably the stand out player.....but Dilrosun didnt do too badly for the Dutch either,he was unplayable in one game.

Dont get me wrong i'd love to keep this kid,but our youth set up doesnt rely on it,as like i say,there are plenty of others,with a more eager attitude,awaiting their opportunity.
