Jadon Sancho

Me too.

He is the kind of kid who needed a boost/kick up the arse at the right moment & there was an obvious period of time where everything was perfectly alligned & most managers & clubs, would have got him on the pitch there & then.

And he wasn't the only one who peaked at a very high level & got no reward at the time.

Pep is getting it right with Foden imo, so long as his opportunities increase as we go along.
Absolutely let him develop physically too. He’ll be a top player no doubt about it. People forget he played in the Caribou Cup and has won a Premier League title; not many Liverpool or Tottenham players have won more in England!

Unless the rules were to change of course, then we wouldn't be able to 'buy them ready made' or indeed win the title, or anything else, without them.

But who gives a fuck ? The FA, politicians & the cartel would never dream of doing anything which changes our situation.

We can rely on them to look after us.

The cartel will do what the cartel do. They have tried, and are currently failing in any attempt to derail us.

But for me it’s beside the point anyway. We can’t use that type of potential scenario as a reason to start bringing through academy players.

I’m also not black and white with it. Some will make it and I hope they do, but it will be limited given the level we are playing at.

Sancho was a great example of a kid who was poorly advised and had a father chasing the dollars. He had no divine right to walk into this team, at that age and be guaranteed play time.

It’s as much about mentality as ability and he failed in the first part.

Foden on the other hand is an example of how it should be done. He’s got the right head on him as well as a fuck load of ability. He will be an example, that every 3/4 years we will unearth a gem like him and when it happens, there is a clear route into the first team.

Conversely though, when an opportunity like De Jong presents itself then we absolutely must pay the money to get it done.

That is all people were asking for kids to get, prior to Pep arriving.

But we had all that 'quality' keeping them out.

Now it really is quality.

From the academy, which squad players do they keep out?

I don’t think Ilkaay, I don’t think Fabian etc etc would be overly pleased being left out of a match day squad to make way for a kid in the EDS. There is literally no space now.

When everyone is fit this current squad is quite ridiculous. There is no prayer for anyone in that EDS as it stands.

What I don't get is that the criticism is mostly for City. Look at the U17 WC winning team from 2017, and only 2 players have more than 5 first team appearances in a top division team, and both came through our academy. Where is the similar criticism of Chelsea for Hudson-Odoi, or for Liverpool for Ryan Brewster or Man U for Gomez? Three 1st team appearances between them!

Chelsea get shit for “stock piling” young players.

Now, you need to be absolute quality, but you can't say the door is closed. Foden and Diaz are in and around the squad and you can basically include Zinchenko as he came in so raw and played at EDS level.

The difference is there'll be no gambles. All 3 mentioned are nailed on to have great careers, as was Sancho. Hindsight has proven this wasn't the case for Rekik, Pozo and the rest, even though at the time we were certain they would do well. Only Kelechi from that batch broke through as he took his opportunities.

But, I will say that back then and even in Pep's first year we screwed up by not giving a chance to our fullbacks. Both Angelino and Maffeo are carving out nice careers and these two could have easily outperformed the washed out relics that were Clichy and Sagna. I don't care what anyone says, we messed up majorly not playing those 2, even players like Mangala suffered as a result. He'd have looked much better next to Angelino compared to Clichy, who in hindsight was Bony levels of awful by the time Pep rolled into town(and the year before that).
