Jadon Sancho

Now it really is quality.

From the academy, which squad players do they keep out?

I don’t think Ilkaay, I don’t think Fabian etc etc would be overly pleased being left out of a match day squad to make way for a kid in the EDS. There is literally no space now.

When everyone is fit this current squad is quite ridiculous. There is no prayer for anyone in that EDS as it stands.

If none of them are good enough, then fair enough. But most in the current EDS are not yet 'knocking on the door' of the first team. We are seeing Foden & Diaz involved in the first team. Unfortunately, Diaz is probably too good to play 2nd fiddle to Foden, but not quite good enough to force his way in, so will probably leave unless he gets on the pitch more regularly.

That's what has happened to Angelino & Maffeo. Pep had a look at them & figured they are not quite what he wants.

I don't have a problem with that.

I do have a problem with the previous old twat, completely ignoring most of our young players in order to placate average older players & then throwing them to the wolves, when he did play them.

That's where our reputation has come from. He should have been handing Pep about ten older kids who had all been tried at Premier League level, for Pep to test out & decide on.

But 5 mins of Navas or Demichelis in midfield was more important & safe.

That's what we need to repair if we want the best kids to stay here & save us from paying 120 mil a shot for jouneymen squad fillers, once the rags have fucked up the market further, which they will.

Can you really blame Pellegrini though? What was his remit? It's not as if he was here for the long haul, he was just holding the fort until Pep came, he knew it, we knew it.

Exactly,he wanted to achieve as much success as possible in his short tenure, who wouldn't? Untried kids didn't fit into that particular picture.

It's part of being a manager. It's called good management, leaving a legacy etc. Would have done his rep no harm at all. Look at the credit Poch gets for playing the odd kid here and there. People rate him higher than Pellegrini, despite MP winning the league, so I guess it wasn't really worth giving Demichelis 10 mins every week in the end. If anything, there was a strong case to say he limited his own options and hampered himself tbh.

Poch knows he's there for the long haul though, surely that has to be taken into account?

It all depends on what Pellegrini's remit was imo, from the outside looking in it seems it was to change the way we play from Mancini's pragmatic style to a more attacking style to lay the groundwork for Pep, and keep us in CL..

Given the chairman makes a huge, huge fuss about our academy at every opportunity, especially back then, i'm sure the remit wasn't 'don't play any kids, instead use Demichelis as an impact sub'... I reckon if anything the chairman might have actually supported the use of some kids to see if they were actually useful for Pep tbh. Building and all that. There was nowt to gain from treading water with Fernando, Navas, Demi and co.

Yep Khaldoon does seem to make a fuss about it but then on the other hand he sanctioned the sale of Lopes and Rekik during Pellegrini's tenure, if he was that fussed then surely he doesn't let that happen.

On Pellegrini and youth, it's not as if he hasn't, developed/nurtured youth in the past, Cazorla and Isco are the two best examples I can think of off the top of my head.

He wasn't afforded the opportunity of building or leaving a legacy as he was under instruction to simply keep the seat warm.I see where you're coming from but I believe Pellegrini just took the chance to win trophies.
Back to Sancho, confirmation from Dortmund that we have first refusal.

Not strictly first refusal but we are kept appraised of the highest bid if we wished to match it, it'd be up to the player then. Or at least that's the way I read it.

Edit: I've just realised that I'm not 100% clear on what 'first refusal' actually means in a football transfer.

Proper bollocks that. Pellers knew his time with us would be brief until we got the man we actually wanted. Why on earth would he risk his own legacy for his short stint. He had a budget too unlike Poch. Poch is in it for the long haul, he has to work with youngsters because they won’t buy players the way we do. I’d rather Dmac got ten minutes here and there over a kid like Boyata etc. If they are good enough then by all means but the fact none of the kids during his time with us are doing much now suggests they wasn’t our level. Plus he brought Nacho through.
