James McAtee

When they actually get him on the ball he’s shown some quality. Hopefully now Sunderland are a man down he’ll see more of it

Well after watching 20 mins Sheffield are playing football that bypasses the midfield hopefully they’ll improve and keep the ball more this season if not it is waste of a season loan for Mcteer it be an eye opener for him thats for sure
Its up to him really, he's got to demand the ball and the more he does that, and the better they are because of it they'll do it more and more.

If he's not a key player for them by the end of the season he's probably not coming back. But he's got to make himself that key player.

looked more confident on the ball as the half progressed, especially after the red card..

He's done OK. Finally got a few touches and demanded the ball more after Sunderland went down to ten men - which was thanks to his clever pressing.

However, he was too passive in the first 30 mins, probably due to nerves and Sunderland edging the game at the point.

It'll definitely be a good test for him and he'll need to improve his fitness and strength if he wants to start the majority of games.

It worked for the likes of Mason Mount but he was a guaranteed starter with Frank looking after him at Derby.

Well...

Sheffield defender gives him a short pass which gets intercepted and then the keeper who comes out when he still has defenders in space gets chipped.

Sheffield are bad.

The pass to him was short there but what is the keeper doing? Well, that should make this more interesting. They still can’t strong proper passes together.

He won't get many assists if he passes to Brewster. It really is amazing how shit Brewster is. I just hope the penny drops quickly with Sheffield United just what a gem they have with McAtee and give him the ball at every opportunity.
Which they just tried and led to a goal. Really not sure if this is a good fit for him.

Is this the same Sheffield that was in the prem a few seasons ago? Some of them look like they’re scared of the ball

That’s a nasty challenge on McAtee. Well, some wanted him to be roughed up. Still not sold on Sheffield but some football is better than none…ok, that was a really bad tackle.

Was impressed with him tonight. But the way we play makes it so tough for our youngsters to perform on loan. He was taking up so many good spots, his awareness of space is excellent and when he eventually was given the ball he had great composure to pick a pass. The trouble is so much of their play is long ball panic pass shite he was up against it. Great set piece delivery and changed the game so not a bad first start and will just need time to get up to speed with physicality, horrific challenge on him at the end there.
