James McLean

They do their job what they are paid to do.
Donald?

Clearly you haven't understood what I or others have said. Why just soldiers and not civilians? And even if we just keep it to the military most weren't professional soldiers, they were conscripts and shit scared. I heard that from my own grandfather who went over the top at Passchendaele. Politicians had brainwashed them into thinking they were sacrificing their lives for their King & country but the vast majority would have preferred to have been at home with their families.

It's forelock-tugging attitudes like yours that let politicians get away with that sort of shit. One good thing about the Iraq War is that so many more people are prepared to think for themselves and question political decisions like this instead of meekly accepting it's necessary to fight these pointless conflicts to supposedly preserve our way of life and existence.

On the subject of footballers wearing Poppies embroidered into their shirts; I thought that in previous seasons they were only worn on the weekend nearest to (but before) remembrance sunday. Now I realise that there's an international break on the weekend of the 11th, but there's still next weekend available to wear them. How come they were sporting them this weekend as well?

Peoffrey and prestwich blue seem to not like the poppy because of political conitations, either who would wear one, or the particular rights and wrongs of a war.

Both are bullshit. The money goes to help young men and women who could not give a fuck about politics and are just doing their jobs. That’s it.

Don’t like McLean at all. Not cos he won’t wear a poppy cos he is out to hurt players.
Yacob is far worse than McClean, although I agree he's no angel.

And as regards the poppy, you've unwittingly exposed another area of hypocrisy. We're told these people made the ultimate sacrifice for their country yet they have to rely on a charity rather than the country they've supposedly sacrificed themselves for. Don't you think that's just a little odd Sam?

Who is making political capital out of it? (I may have missed someone doing so hence me I’m asking)
e.g. Gregory Campbell - DUP.

I also recall a debate on the Today show on Radio 4 where a couple of politicians (Labour and Tory I think but cannot recall whom) were politicising it - i.e. linking the wearing of it to patriotism.

Because for half the teams it’s their last home game.

So it’s not a main stream thing I’m missing?

DUP are always ****s about everything also. If a DUP MP said my suit was nice I’d go and change.

The poppy isn’t just about historical conflicts it’s about Blair’s bullshit too. People doing their job. The poppy helps those people not politicians.

You clearly don’t understand the military. It’s apolitical. It’s a job.

Poppy helps people who gave their lives doing their job - irrespective of politics. I would say it’s attitudes like yours that are wrong. The guys fighting really don’t give a fuck about your political persuasion or belief. It might be pointless but our boys and girls serve us well and need our support. Joe bloggs age 17 who died in Iraq needs your support , if you want to make political points it’s not joes family who should be penalised but that tosser Blair.
He made the decision to kill innocents not joe doing his job.

I never said it was mainstream.

I simply stated that some politicians and chunks of the media were politicising it.

I don't like the DUP either but they are busy keeping the Tories in government so their views, distasteful or otherwise, might hold greater significance than once they did.
