James McLean

Yacob is far worse than McClean, although I agree he's no angel.

And as regards the poppy, you've unwittingly exposed another area of hypocrisy. We're told these people made the ultimate sacrifice for their country yet they have to rely on a charity rather than the country they've supposedly sacrificed themselves for. Don't you think that's just a little odd Sam?

It is odd and wrong.

Donald?

Clearly you haven't understood what I or others have said. Why just soldiers and not civilians? And even if we just keep it to the military most weren't professional soldiers, they were conscripts and shit scared. I heard that from my own grandfather who went over the top at Passchendaele. Politicians had brainwashed them into thinking they were sacrificing their lives for their King & country but the vast majority would have preferred to have been at home with their families.

It's forelock-tugging attitudes like yours that let politicians get away with that sort of shit. One good thing about the Iraq War is that so many more people are prepared to think for themselves and question political decisions like this instead of meekly accepting it's necessary to fight these pointless conflicts to supposedly preserve our way of life and existence.
*applause*

Excellent post and I agree wholeheartedly regarding your assertion about there being one good thing about that vile campaign in Iraq, more and more of the proles are willing to question the government as they sound the war drum, eager to spill more blood in far off lands.

But that is a political decision, Blair goes about building his property empire, meanwhile the poor soldiers doing HIS deed , are in some cases homeless or struggling to survive. The poppy funds are for them not Blair or other politicians who took the decision.

The poppy isn’t just about historical conflicts it’s about Blair’s bullshit too. People doing their job. The poppy helps those people not politicians.

You clearly don’t understand the military. It’s apolitical. It’s a job.

Poppy helps people who gave their lives doing their job - irrespective of politics. I would say it’s attitudes like yours that are wrong. The guys fighting really don’t give a fuck about your political persuasion or belief. It might be pointless but our boys and girls serve us well and need our support. Joe bloggs age 17 who died in Iraq needs your support , if you want to make political points it’s not joes family who should be penalised but that tosser Blair.
He made the decision to kill innocents not joe doing his job.

Good post.

I don't like the DUP either but they are busy keeping the Tories in government so their views, distasteful or otherwise, might hold greater significance than once they did.
Sadly.

And you’re right, it’s PB that thinks a poppy is now political for whatever reason (he hasn’t explained that yet, just a bit of a GCSE history).

Fair point. But a lot of away sides were sporting them as well; we had them on yesterday, and we're at home to Arsenal next weekend. And Everton have them on this afternoon (I'm assuming they're at home next weekend).
Yeah but can imagine why:

West Brom bod: *calls City bod* “it’s out last home game before 11/11, so we’re having a silence and wearing poppies. Thought we’d let you know”

City bod: “cheers for the heads up, we’ll do the same so we don’t look like ****s not wearing ours”

Ding ding ding. Exactly.

True.
