Jan Vertonghen

Eriksen: Huge talent. Wants to stay at least until 2013 at Ajax. Cruijff will notify Rosell (Barcelona) to pick Eriksen up early. United is also interested.

I imagine Erikson will move this summer. City made a firm offer for him which was confirmed by his dad/agent and by the player himself last summer - but he said he wanted to stay at Ajax to continue his development. However a good showing at the Euro's this summer and he'll be gone.

If it was for the money he'd be gone already. Eriksens main focus is the development of his game. And currently, he's struggling to improve in Holland due to his own inconsistancy (and the team & board). He knows he's physically not fit for the PL, so If he wants to go, he'll probably wait for Barcelona (rumoured to pick him up in summer and loan to Ajax) or AS Roma, which happens to be his favourite foreign club.

About Vertonghen: He has a lot of infiltration power, reads the game well, which helps him make up for the lack of speed (though he's not that slow either) and he has a killer long shot in his left foot as well.

If he makes a mistake in defense from time to time, it's mostly because he thinks rather offensively. He's gotten a lot of criticism at the start of the season, but to be fair: he got a lot MORE than he deserved (meaning some other defenders were spared, due to the fact they're even younger than him + the midfield collapsed more often than not leaving the defense exposed.)

So is he world class? No, I don't think so.
Is he another Kompany? Not likely...
Does he have the potential to become a trustworthy CB or LB?
Yes, imo everything is there, but it's up to him to make it happen.

Besides, with the way Lescott and Kompany are playing right now, it's not exactly a gift to try and earn your spot. So maybe he should sign with another club for his own development.

He's been top drawer Vs United atm very comfortable with the ball at his feet and he's been a rock for Ajax so far, would be a very good signing and wouldn't be as expensive as others, would definitely sign him up to partner Kompany

His best moment of the match was when some sloppy Ajax play gave United a break, they had superior numbers and Vertonghen had to balance how close to get to the breaking player and how close to stay near the first man in the box, and he got it just right and intercepted.

Very impressive tonight.
He looked very calm and assured and looks to have very good leadership abilities. He can also play a bit, bringing the ball out well and picking a pass,he's certainly an intelligent footballer.

Maybe he lacks a little pace but he more than makes up for it with his reading of the game.

That is the kind of intelligence I see from the lad, both offensively and defensively that has me raving about him.

The way he works with his teammates to decide how to defend a play is fabulous. Even on the United goal, which by the way was his fault (he threaded a pass into a tight space and his man got beat to the ball), his positioning as Berbatov got the ball was super. He literally cut out the passing lane to Chic-doritos and tried to force Berba to his right where he had 2 supporting defenders. But Berba made an incredible curling pass, he almost intercepted, to find Doritos. Any lesser player (talentwise) and his positioning would have thwarted that pass.

A few minutes later on the left he thwarted a similar play, nicking an interception between 3 United players from great positioning.
