Good enough to start for the Number 1 team in International Football but not good enough to considered as one of the 4 Central Defenders at the start of the season. MP's loyalty to MDM was/is beyond a joke.
Whilst I agree that he should have been in for MDM this season he definitely isn't a starter for Belgium. That was a fairly hash job team.

Anyone watch it? How did he do?
Didn't watch the match but followed the commentary, he wasn't mentioned by name to be bad but it sounded like the Belgium defence was a bit of a shambles for the majority of the match.

Yeah, i thought that may be the case. But irrelevant of the fact the Belgian Team may not of been at full strength he's still considered an adequate replacement when we (or rather MP) didn't - Either he's blindly loyal to MDM or genuinely incompetent, i believe both to be the case tbh. Can't wait until we have a Manager who actually puts faith in good, young players. Roll on June.

Unfortunately, I think it's loyalty. Incompetence is just a ridiculous comment.

It's easy to forget that the last 6 games of last season involved MDM and Mangala playing in what looked a very solid defence with a run of clean sheets. Binning him off after that would not have gone down well on here at all. The reason Denayer went on loan was because we signed Oto, something that went down very well on here! We had agreed with Denayer that if we brought in a 4th CB he would be allowed to go on a season loan, this was an arrangement linked to him signing a new 5 year deal last summer - again something that went down very well on here.

So pellers get's a load of flak because of decisions that were all seen as good ones at the time? shame he doenst have a crtystal ball like some of the bluemooners!!!

Would like to say that, that bit of skill Ronaldo did to nutmeg him was good but not good enough to be shown on repeat by everyone on Social media and touted as 'Ronaldo at his best'. The lad did good, an exciting prospect indeed

Actual facts don't generally suit the agenda's of the whinging panty flappers we seem to have on here this season.

We didn't agree that with Denayer, wd agreed to play him then shat on him.

There were plenty of us viciously against loaning out Denayer under any circumstances & a reasonable number who didn't want Otamendi. Plenty who said Denayer could cover several positions & would leave us more breathing space in the Champions League.

If we had Denayer now, we could have both Nasri & Iheanacho in the Champs League squad.

Not right at all to claim this was generally accepted. A whole bunch of us pointed all this out.

First half he really struggled, but mainly because the rightback was nowhere to be found so he spent most of his time trying to cover that area and as a result left a huge space where he should have been. Kind of like a crash course in how to play with Kolarov. He ended up over covering a bit tbh and getting dragged onto the wing too often, but he wasn't at all helped by the whole defence being a disorganised mess. Second half was more of the same for 10 minutes until the dreadful RB got yanked off and Denayer was put there instead. He didn't have a whole lot to do after that as Portugal subbed off most of their team and Belgium got the upper hand.
