Javi Garcia (continued)

It's funny how people believe that quote is about García.

I've warmed to him, he's hardly put a foot wrong since Christmas when he has played.

The one thing I'm often confused about with some of the criticism directed towards him about his lack of attacking input (even though he was never signed, nor notorious for his attacking contributions) is that De Jong hardly copped any critics about his lack of attacking contributions when he played for us.

He was never signed for anything, Mancini didn't want him, the board signed him on his behalf. Mancini wanted de Rossi. But anyway, you're right, people expect him to be something he's not, and pellegrini playing him in the right position this season rather than Mancini trying to get him to play like toure last season has done him and the team wonders. When he plays, he really solidifies the team.

Looks like our Javi has a celebrity fan:
Pirlo: "You watch the game, you don't see Javi Garcia. You watch Javi Garcia, you see the whole game."
High praise indeed.

Just shows how he's vastly underrated by the the English media. There was a time last season where I hated him, I'd moan on here about him, I'd sigh at the Etihad if he played but now I realise how he does the simple things well. Very well indeed. He wins the ball then plays the sumple pass. My one gripe about him would be if we are going to sign a central midfielder in the summer it shouldn't be another Garcia, he should be able to contribute attacking wise as Javi deserves a place in the squad as our defensive shield.

not sure how a made up quote shows this but anyway! he has got better as the season has progressed, now has a chance to be a big part of a crucial run in

Is it safe to say hes decent now?
I still think he needs to play in a midfield three in the big games but against anyone outside the top 6 he looks good.

Fair play to Javi because he has improved massively this season and maybe he is just one of those players who needs that season to bed in.

Navas and Beast will be the same next season in my opinion.

Looks that way. Fair play to him.

With Boyatas contract up I think there is only Sinclair that you could say was a well below par player in our squad now.

I've went from haring the fat useless crab to loving Javi. Sorry Jav lad.

He's boss.
His wifes boss.
His hairs boss.
His beards boss.
His shoes are boss.
He's fucking boss.

Both Garcia and Demichelis were clear scapegoats earlier (most of the times totally unjustified), but they have proved to be more than decent squadplayers. I just tend to wonder if both these two stand out, like last night, is that because the rest was so mediocre?

You started out OK, but then drifted off into the very definition of a faint praise, backhanded compliment worthy of only a true City fan!!

They have BOTH step into difficult positions in difficult games and done yeomans work. Garcia has come on in leaps and bounds this season and those games where he came in for the last 20 mins to free up Yaya are paying dividends now. Never loses a ball in the air and even got forward a bit tonight against WBA.

MDM has suffered somewhat from VK not having his best season and being caught out once or twice. However, in the 24/7 TalkShite world we live in, that makes him a liability, blah, blah, blah. Everyone who knows nothing jumps on the bandwagon and he becomes a bad player?! Bollocks! Solid defender who has lost a yard, but been pilloried for not catching Messi?? Fuck me, with that as the standard, I've yet to meet a good defender!!

I completely agree with you. In fact I was one of a very few that thought Garcia was ok and one of the best in reading the game. De Jong was more popular because we loved his flying tackles, but in fact he needed them to make up where as Garcia simply doesn't need to fly in.
BUT ...
both Garcia and Demichelis are not our topplayers. So if they are the best in a match, it's pretty obvious that it won't be the best of matches. Bit like when Hart is our MotM, we have had a difficult game. Therefore I was simply wondering if in last nights' game the were the best on the pitch (and imo they were), did the team had a mediocre game? I think we did, however comfortable nothing near the stuff we showed earlier in the season or midway through.

I think Silva was the best on the pitch until he was injured. No disrespect to Garcia or Demichelis.

Broke up play and got the ball to City players up the pitch all night.
A couple of harem scarum moments when he was caught by the press on the half way line but he keep hold of the ball and didn't lose possession.
Overall pretty damn good.

Garcia not good enough.

MDM not good enough.

Let's be serious and get rid in the summer or we simply will not compete at the level we want to be at.

And whilst we are on the subject Milner, Dzeko, Rodwell and Lescott also not good enough.

I like Javi, no ones proclaiming him as a world beater, but he's hardly put a foot wrong since before Christmas. I'd keep him for the role he's played in the team. He is ideal and we're winning a lot of games with him in the team still, so he can't be complete garbage like they would have you believe.
