A monster. An absolute monster. That is how one of my pals at City described new signing Javi Garcia, and now I can’t wait to see him play.

The departure of Nigel de Jong was sad, as it always is when you see a player leave who wore the shirt with pride and never shirked a challenge for the cause.

But from what I hear from people within the club, Garcia offers the combativeness of Nigel and a bit more besides.

He sees the ball, and he wins it, no matter what or who comes between them. But he also has a knack of scoring goals from set-pieces.

I have heard some talk that a game at Stoke may not be the ideal place to give someone a debut in English football, as you can expect it to be fast and ferocious on the field, and loud and intimidating off it.

But Garcia would appear to be perfect for that kind of game – and I’m sure he will simply be relishing the physical challenge.

Hope he does great but from what I see he is not as crisp a passer as NDJ and more likely to get sent off more often. NDJ was about as good a DM as you could get.

Can't wait to see him play though. Him, Rodwell and Barry as a middle 3 - Will that be enough to bridge the yapping hole of Yaya's absence?
