Weren't you saying in the Fernandinho thread that price tags don't matter?

Close but no prize......

When they're shite it matters very much.

He's not shite though that's the point.

He's a valuable, versatile squad player who is relatively young yet already has a lot of European experience (and as captain).

He's not very flashy and is admittedly pretty bloody slow but I think he definitely has an important role as a squad player. Two pretty well regarded managers have so far agreed.

Bluemoon maybe livid but I don't think Pellegrini will be unhappy with Javi tonight at all. Ask yourselves why.

There are pretty well regarded managers and punters on the internet with opinions. I'm going with the managers

Re: Javi Garcia (merged)

He was a liability tonight and we were fortunate not to concede more,he is so slow with next to no agility, somehow he even manages to make running look difficult!

I'm convinced his defensive team mates play below their usual standards as they are too concerned with covering his lack of ability and subsequently are dragged out of position and lose concentration on their own game.

Re: Javi Garcia (merged)

Sure quite a few others have said it (can't be arsed reading the whole thread) but as a centre back he is a liability. It's not his position, he barely knows what he's doing there and Lescott would be a better option. As a defensive midfielder, he is a better player.

Of course you are right and there are many experienced Pundits that would agree with you. I don't think he was a particular favourite of Mancini either and I don't remember him playing at centre half under Mancini.

Pelle must see something in training that doesn't materialise on a match day. In theory I can understand the idea but its a huge gamble particularly when playing such a high line.

If you gamble twice and it pays off twice, maybe making that gamble is the correct one to make?

We will have to agree to disagree but I hope he comes good.

I think our agreeing to disagree may go on for years yet Cobwebcat ;)

Re: Javi Garcia (merged)

He was at fault for the goal (as was Zaba for playing Tosic onside), had a few hairy moments but overall I really don't think he was that bad tonight.

Clearly he is not worth the money we paid for him but as others have said he is not a bad player to have in the squad. You can't have a squad made up completely of world-class players.
