So no, your Stoke's and Blackburns parking the bus wont be able to do it, but there's no reason why the top 6 teams can't deploy similar traps to ruin his day. For a player that relies on speed, his run timing is awful.
I've been waiting for the perfect moment to dip into this thread.
His run timing is awful? Who have you been watching? His movement is the single best thing about his entire game. That's why he's scored as many goals as he has; his anticipation of a pass, reaction to mistakes etc. all mean that he gets as many opportunities to score as he does.
I'll address you to spare Dirty Harry defending someone he hates! :P
I don't watch him every week. But look at the CL final. Barcelona knew exactly how to handle him. Every single attempt he made at a run was caught offside. That is awful run timing if you ask me. If a speed striker can't figure out an offside trap, he's got a problem.
From what I saw, I suspect United's plan was to absorb the pressure and rely on releasing Hernandez to leave Pique and Puyol in the dust on the break. Well that may have won you the tournament, except he was offside for every single release. How is that reading the game correctly and making his positioning perfect? Being able to do it against your average prem team is great, but he was completely exposed in the CL.
In a straight sprint I'd bet on Hernandez over any of the Barca back 4 every time, so given the chance he could have been one on one with the keeper for every break long ball played to him. But his positioning cost him.
