Sign one left back and one right back, and keep Clichy and Navas and we'll be OK. Navas now that he has shown he can play right back is a valuable squad player. I hope he accepts a 12 month contract. he might decide to go back to Sevilla though if they are offering more years

In 2012 maybe. Define "worth". I'm not bothered whether we sign walker or not tbh but it does frustrate me when people don't seem to have a grasp of how much player prices have gone up in the last few years. Do you really think we get the first choice full back from a club challenging for the title in a league where even a club like palace can spend the best part of 30 million on a player?
 
As a back-up right back I do think he could do a job, though I'd have preferred to see say Maffeo come into that role, imagine he'd have cheaper wages too..

Oh well let's wait & see what actually happens first.
 
Think he's done pretty well at right back when he has played only thing that surprises me is that I though we would be trying to reduce the age of the squad a bit, though he's one player whose dynamo has not run down much with age.
 
The problems with both Zaba and Sagna is they would probably want longer deals.
 
So people on here would prefer to have a 20yr kid whos got 1 seasons Spanish 2nd division experience behind as back up right back than a player who has kept some tricky players quiet recently???? Sanchez twice hazard,tadic, ?????

True but if Navas is to be the backup right back, i would expect he'll be backing up a new player who will be first choice. I dont see us keeping Maffeo as 3rd choice RB, he'll probably be loaned out again which I think is a mistake. I'd rather Maffeo as second choice.

Good post. Even though he isn't a true RB he has some pace and composure in possession. Definitely a better proposition than retaining Zabs who is past it. Or Sagna who never had it.

I'm "so so" sick of this clown. What does he have to do before people wake up to the fact that he is no better than average in any league that has more than one other half decent team in it. The whole football world knows that city see themselves as a small little club that feels lucky to have the precious Guardiola as manager.

Our most unsuccessful manager since the takeover. He's taking us back years. And being applauded and worshipped for it.

I think you're being unfair - Pep inherited a team that had been together for too long with recruitment around the time of the FFP regulation frankly appalling. I think with one of the highest average age in PL City were in need of a re-build. I can't recall which manager said it, but the bones of the quote were "you cannot change an entire team in one go, the most you can do is three players in the first team." Financial considerations based on the wage and bonus packages that we pay have made it impossible to shift players as well. So just give him a bit more time. Roberto was given three players at the height of their powers and all aged mid twenties + - added to our existing squad with Kompany, Zabba etc is the reason we came so far so fast.

Next year will see four or five younger players coming in with two or three at their peak. I also don't agree one bit with you about leadership being oppressed, as Pep himself admitted he was surprised at the lack of personalities at the club. Zabba was offered a one year extension, but like the legend he is he preferred to run down his contract and leave to play more. I will be cheering him on wherever he goes, you are so wrong to suggest that he is leaving because Pep doesn't want his character in the team.

Navas has been a major disappointment as an attacking player but as long as we get a world class right back in I have no problem with him covering for cup games and injuries - it would be a cheap option and give more to the budget of buying a better quality starter. As I said we have been hampered in the recent past by buying slightly above average players for crazy amounts because we couldn't/wouldn't pay that bit more due to financial fair play. If we make those mistakes again then for sure have a go at the manager - remember Rome wasn't built in a day. Next year we fly!

Do you mean Sanchez and Hazard who both scored in the our recent losses to their teams?

I should note i dont lay the blame on Navas but on the team as a whole but, personally, I dont rate him as a right back.

May be that way, Navas may be 3rd choice. Utility man, exactly like he is now
