Maybe he was offered something by Porto to make it worth his while to sign a new contract.

If Milner can go on a free he will no doubt get a multi-million pound signing on bonus and a high weekly salary as there is no transfer fee involved. If he signs a new contract and a club has to buy him for say 15M , they are unlikely to offer him such good personal terms.

That's why clubs usually try and renegotiate contracts when the player is only halfway through the last one.

Even David Moyes (at the rags) wouldn't have paid £15m for Jimmy.

Jimmy is a good solid pro who had done well for us (in the last two years) and in return we have made him an even richer bloke whose exceeded 50 England caps.

It wouldn't surprise me if he went for between 10 and 15 if he still had a few years left on his contract.

Maybe so by Jimmy's performance on Sunday wasn't worth £10 to £15 quid. Hopefully this was a one off nightmare!

Looking at Milner's Premier League playing time stats, (from Transfermarkt), over the past four seasons,
Milner has played the following time:
2011/12- 1,586 hours - 46% of total;
2012/13- 1,735 hours - 51% of total;
2013/14- 1,359 hours - 40% of total;
2014/15- 1,044 hours after 22 games - 53% of total;
Last year his % was significantly lower than previous years, and it's understandable he was concerned but typically he has played around half of the hours possible.

If he is not satisfied with approximately that % then he should move on. Personally I feel that % is about right.

Fernando was given an ultimatum by Porto. They said sign contract extension and you would get your move in the summer and maybe a place in the World Cup or don't sign and play in the reserves for the rest of the season. It didn't help him with getting into the Portugal national side but it did get him a move to City and with £12m going into Fc Porto's pockets.

I suspect he got a sizeable sum for signing his new contract with Porto with them knowing they would recoup more than that when selling him to us 4 months later. Maybe we'll come to some similar arrangement with Milner.

There isn't too much time left but fingers crossed we come to that arrangement,

strange how some believed he would play for nothing just to get a game. Like all the rest his agent pulls the strings and the puppet on the end does what he's told. If there was any chance of him signing he'd have done so long ago. As long as his replacement doesn't come from the Portuguese league we'll be ok!

Unlike all the rest though, he doesn't have an agent.

That makes his stance even more annoying,

Sign a contract or don't play him he's not needed so give the kids a chance. he's played more than any other player this season which he was winging about so he's got what he wanted if he doesn't sign soon he should be left out the squad like he did to nastasic

Wow I just noticed from Tranfermarkt that Milner has "Jason Ferguson" down as the Player's agent ie Alex Ferguson's son!

According to Transfermarkt Jason Ferguson has only one client on his books our Jimmy.

I have found Transfermarkt to be a very reputable and accurate site.

Thanks for spotting this lol. I wonder if Ferguson junior is officially Milner's "advisor", given Jason's questionable track record as an agent for the rags.

I wonder if we've come to an arrangement with Liverpool that we won't meet his demands and they can have him on a free if we get Sterling?

If Sterling doesn't sign his new contract then that is plausible. The only problem is agreeing a fee with Liverpool.
