Fantastic effort today, instrumental in us coming away with the point.

Like above, hopefully that performance suggests he has decided to stop fucking us about and sign.
Why do people always praise Milner for his effort as if all the other players weren't trying? Too many moves break down completely at his feet. Navas gets slated and he far more frequently produces something decisive or threatening. Nasri is better in almost every department.

I like Milner for his versatility and commitment but we shouldn't let him ransom his way into weakening our first eleven.

You think Milner's presence yesterday weakened us?!
I don't agree that he weakens us but I agree with the rest of NQCitizen's post and have already said this. Until he moved into Fernando's slot, nearly everything broke down when he got the ball. If his end product matched his work-rate he'd be some player. But more often than not it doesn't. He hasn't had anywhere near enough games like Bayern away and Everton away last season. But he has too many like Boro last week.

I dont think he will sign. He is doing a Sagna. He is already maybe offered nice wages more playing time and also nice signing bonus on top at Pool or somewhere.

He is a 10-15m player, offering him 3-4m in sign up bonus still great business to get him for free.

No: he won more ball than all bar Dinho but his pass completion was relatively poor and that is a common problem for him. However, he is useful in games like yesterday's. I don't think it would be that difficult to find an upgrade for a wide midfielder or central midfielder but it would cost money and the English options are not plentiful. Not many players are as versatile but losing him for free is the big issue.

Certainly one of his better days today.

His inconsistency leaves me unsure whether to give him what he wants or not.
Inconsistency??? Seriously?
Seriously.
He varies between an inspirational, brave, tireless asset to the team one week to a turnover machine the next.
Really can't decide if I want him to stay or not but edging towards a no.

I think most of us would agree that Jimmy Milner is not one of our naturally gifted players but he endears himself to many fans because of his energy and commitment.
Now that the January transfer is all but closed I get the distinct feeling that he will run down his contract and be gone in the summer. Whilst he has every right to take this route I for one would feel he has been a little disrespectful to the club and the fans. Sign a new contract Jimmy and if you still want to go after this season at least we can get a bloody decent fee for a change.

Regardless of any deficiencies, I hope he stays put. A bit like Lescott, he sets a superb example and tone for every other player at the club

I'm beginning to have second thoughts about the whole idea of Milner staying. I appreciate what he brings in terms of both professionalism and also the never say die attitude when he's on the pitch, but ultimately part of me can't help but feel if we really want to take the next step up in terms of quality, then Milner should be a casualty of that for various reasons.

Yes he brings a certain amount of energy and work rate to big games, but ultimately his output as an attacking midfielder isn't anywhere near the quality we require. Someone said the other day Milner should only play when there's 10 better players than him in the side also, and that rings true for me. In the tight matches whether they be in the CL or in the PL it's rare that Milner is going to make the difference either in terms of assisting a goal or in fact scoring one himself. That's not to say he's never done it, just nowhere near often enough for a side with the ambitions we have.

In many respects I actually think Navas is the guy who should be taking Milner's role in the squad. Jesus has a similar work rate, is just as dependable in terms of covering his full back, more intelligent and technically a better player. All in all I'd say we need only one winger like that in the squad.

but if he gets injured we need another one

I'd say we need one winger like the one I've described, and one out and out world class one. For me, Nasri is rightfully alongside Silva undroppable. That's because we have nothing in the squad which competes with him (or Silva) for that matter in terms of creativity. Whether it be Reus, or Bale, or A N Other world class attacking midfielder/winger, that's we need to compliment the players we already have. Having two wingers who are incapable of delivering the kind of end product in terms of passing/shooting that Nasri and Silva have is pointless.
