If Rodri is fit he plays though. Even in the so called lesser games. Anyone coming in to compete with him would have to be happy being a bench player most of the time
Do you honestly think Neves would be brought in and told “you either displace Rodri or you don’t play?” This is silly, esp given the evidence right in front of you.
Pep adores players who can play football. Once he knows you are a footballer, he then knows you can play 5 or 6 positions without much drop off in performance.
In short, if Neves came here, he would be tasked with learning how to adapt to playing ANY midfield role and a false nine, because the skills are quite similar. Then, he would have Bernardo-type qualities, which make him invaluable.
IF, and who knows at this point, Pep & Txiki think he is a young Bernardo, who can run a game from midfield, but also relieve Rodri and play alongside him, then the money is pure investment. At 19, he is a long-tailed FFP investment with excellent sell-on potential.
I don’t know him, other than the occasional clip, but if he really does check all the boxes, and still has years of maturation to go, then the numbers work themselves out.
