Joe Hart (continued)

Joe Hart faces fresh disappointment as Costel Pantilimon is set to be selected by Manuel Pellegrini for Manchester City's pivotal Premier League meeting with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in Saturday's early kick-off.

Hart was demoted to second-choice goalkeeper following the error that allowed Chelsea's Fernando Torres to score a late winner at Stamford Bridge on 27 October.

The 26-year-old played in City's 3-2 Champions League win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening. But with Pellegrini resting some of his first-choice players, as City had already qualified for the group stages, Hart's inclusion did not necessarily denote a recall to the Chilean's strongest XI.

Pellegrini did consider reinstating Hart for the visit of Arsenal but it is understood that by Friday evening he was again leaning towards retaining Pantilimon who, since his promotion, has appeared comfortable in the role.

When asked at his pre-Arsenal press conference whether Pellegrini would choose Hart to face the leaders, he would not be drawn. "We will see [on Saturday] the 11 starters. We'll see when is the best moment to bring him [Hart] back," said the manager. "Costel deserves respect. He is doing very well and the team are winning almost all the games. We have two goalkeepers and we'll see when is the best moment he can return."

So the Mirror incorrectly reports that he will start, and suddenly the media say that Hart experiences 'axe rage' because it turns out their reports are wrong

Wish I could make up shit for a living

If Manuel puts Joe back in his rightful spot tomorrow he will go up even further in many supporters' estimation.

"Rightful"? And he'd go way down in mine. You don't hand the keys to a supercar to the guy who has crashed your other two really recently.

Villa and Chelsea were horrendous amateurish mistakes that could be incredibly decisive in our final standings. We sit below Chelsea when with a draw we'd be above them (I actually hate hypothetical scenarios like this but comfortably in possession in the last minutes of the game it seems near certain).

Pantilimon on the other hand hasn't put a foot wrong. He's conceded two goals in the league, one where he was left defenceless against Sunderland and a wonder goal against Southampton.

Hart's last good performances came under a completely different manager with a very different defensive philosophy. It's no coincidence that suddenly we can defend long balls over the top that were cutting us apart at the start of the season.

Tough Call
1) Hart plays, makes error = end of season
2) Pants plays, makes error = "Told you he is not as good as Hart"

IMO Play Pants, he is yet to have to react to an error, which says he is playing well. IF he makes one he has room for manoeuvre. If Hart makes one our moral guardians in the press will annihilate him, making his comeback harder still.

Hart has a point to prove, but bring him back in a game when an isolated mistake might be retrievable by his team mates.

I rate Hart, I really do, but this is not the game to make his claim to regain the number 1 slot. Pants has done enough to show he is good enough, let him carry on and bring Hart back in the Leicester / Fulham ./ Liverpool / Palace run, if he proves he can handle it, and put Pants in the cup runs.

I don't agree, you can't drop Panti unless he's injured or is in poor form.

One person only will make the decision and he no doubt has already made that decision. What people aren't considering is what is happening in training, who is performing, who looks focused, who has picked up injury niggles, who is flapping least at set plays, who is kicking best. These are all considerations that our manager will be more than aware of. If Panti plays that's because MP considers he is the best one to play, if Hart plays it's exactly the same. It's always good for us to pass our opinions but when push comes to shove we should be getting behind whoever is put in there. We have got a massive game in front of us and I have utmost faith in MP's decision. All this media attention around Hart being recalled is water off a ducks back for MP, he will do what he thinks is right and doesn't give a flying f*** about what is or isn't written.
