Let's face it, us Brits love to build up one of our own and then lap it up when they fall. The press have been doing this for years with numerous public figures, celebrities, actors, footballers etc. It's almost part of our culture.

Joe is going through a bit of a dodgy patch. But so does every player at some point. However come Monday night and you will be hearing Hart's name and England's number one proudly shouted from the stands.

So what. Shots hit keepers and go in all the time.
In a team game i find it difficult to pin the blame on any one individual. Sure, if a player (keepers included) is under no pressure or danger and they give the ball away or drop it at a strikers feet leading directly to a goal then yes, it's a clanger,howler, bollock dropped and blame can be laid.

In the context of open play the ball has to go past a lot of players, any one of which can influence the play. In tonight's case at least 5 England players should've done a lot better defending the attack. The guy's in the box with all the time in the world and nobody even remotely close. I'd expect most international pro footballers to score from there.

I think Joe would accept that he should have saved it - ofc it would be worse if it'd gone through is legs at 2 miles an hour with him fully sighted. But that's not really the point (and he was also 2nd in the unforced errors category last season). A keeper of his class should have saved it, and it's not the first one in that category over the last year or so. Regardless of all this - and which is my point - he can only benefit from greater competition, can't he?

I don't think 'competition' works with keepers. They don't just get dropped because the 2nd choice looks good in training. Generally if the keeper doesn't let in too many soft goals and stays fit he stays 1st choice. The keeper on the bench must wait for either a series of mistakes or an injury to the number 1 before getting his chance.
Keepers just don't get 'rotated'. They could get a cup run from the off (don't mention the final) but they know the score. Waiting and staying fit and sharp is part of their game. Given being one of the 'i want first team football' exceptions.

If an out field player mid places a pass or strikers don't score, it's ok better luck next time. Do you want them off the pitch though, replace them and rotate every week NO!
I sorry but Joe Hart has shown over the past 3 seasons what a good goalkeeper he is. Some games he has literally saved us the points. Yes made the odd mistake just like outfield players who just hold there hands up and say sorry and play on.
It's different for a keeper.
With Joe Hart , people just see him having a laugh with mates at work etc, its called banter in the work place, some of you should try it.
However, speak to any professional player who plays with him and they will tell you how hard he trains how he pushes himself, how focused he gets about his JOB.
All you people who wang him dropped or replaced, who do you want in goal??
Pants isn't as good as Jod Hart and I certainly wouldn't swap him for any keeper in UK. So start naming these keepers who never stop goals going in, who never mid-kick a ball.
We have at present a goalkeeper that if was put up for sale nearly ALL of not ALL the top teams in Europe would be interested.
I think a lot on here need to look back and see where we have come from and the dizzy heights we are now at, it's journey.
In sorry Sturridge is no longer available as a replacement to Hart, he must be now about 50 years old.

Joe's a great keeper with a fantastic future, but is far from the finished article.

Just forget the "best keeper in the world" stuff.

Maybe in two or three years with more experience.

In fact I don't think you can say there is a "World's best keeper"....no more than you can say "World's best guitar solo" or "World's best motorbike".

You can say "World's fastest sprinter" because you have a yardstick to measure against....the clock.

When he is as good as Lev Yashin was, he will be somewhere near.
