Just put yourself in Pellegrini's place.
You have backed this guy up to now and kept him playing. Unfortunately this has not worked yet and the confidence is clearly not there.
What do you do? Keep playing him and take the flack for any further errors?
The manager's only alternative is to rest him for a while, making it clear to the player this is not a permanent change and the opportunity is there to get back in the side.
Joe is under massive pressure atm. He needs to be taken out of the spotlight and allowed to recover his confidence and form.
Keeping him playing is not working.

The lc game is perfect timin . Pantillimon will start and if he plays well, he'll keep his place IMO .

Getting really pissed off with the bashing of Joe Hart now.

Lets just get behind him now eh.

Hey remember that brilliant save he made against CSKA Moscow right at the death to get us maximum points????

Forget when that was, oh, t'was only last week.

Time to be called to account, Mr Hart. Stick on a few videos, both negative and positive, and ask him to explain his actions, whether that be to the goalkeeping coach or to the manager. If he admits his mistake with some of the clangers, then this can be worked on. However, if he maintains that it was someone else's fault for his rushes of blood, then there is a serious problem, whether that be over-confidence, ego or what. Compare the good saves with the gaffs - what decision-making process did he go through to choose one response over the other? (I'm aware that there's little time to make a decision, but other professionals manage to choose the right response!)

For me, Joe seems to have lost a lack of situational awareness and reading of the game. Some of his one-on-one, 'let's make a starfish-shape', have worked in the past, but many now seem to be a panic reaction and a crossing of the proverbial fingers, rather than a decent keeper's reaction. Is he actually closing his eyes? There's been so much discussion about Chelsea's second goal, but where was his anticipation that didn't even seem to see Schürrle's approach until after the ball was on its way in to the net? (I'm writing this based on one viewing on the telly, as I was too livid to watch any replays.)

Right. That was my two-penn'orth.

Its been pointed out to me over the past few years that he actually does close his eyes in one on one situations when closed down , not all the time but quite often . How do you react properly ?

we are 2 points better off in the champions league because of Joe. Some could argue that we are 7 points worse off in the league, but I think those dropped points can be shared equally between the back 5.

On the whole, he isn't playing well enough to merit a place in a top side, but none of our defenders are either.

A small break just for a few games is probably the best idea.

I am sorry? What was that? Just for a clarification. Are you suggesting that we have been blessed with 2 additional points due to hart's goalkeeping this season?

Sorry if it's been mentioned,I remember laughing at Joe Corrigan in his early days, every time he made a mistake he was punished,City left him out for a while and he came back a much much better keeper.
I believe Hart could do with a rest ,not physically ,mentally, another couple of bollocks ( and it can happen anytime to any keeper) and it could destroy him.
He's England's best keeper by a country mile ,but needs a rain check, tbf Roy Keane was right.

Bet you didn't laugh as much as I did at Paddy Roche....Oh, and fuck Roy Keane.

To be fair to Joe, the injuries we have had in defence haven't helped and the mistake Sunday has come at a time when we almost have a fully fit squad which I think would make it easier for him. Unfortunately, his latest error has made his position untenable but it hasn't Made him a poor keeper overnight.
