The goal he conceded last night will no doubt have disappointed him. Whilst it was hardly a clanger solely down to Hart (the poor defending of the initial corner where they should have first cleared their lines better (welbeck) then the second phase where Morrisson should have been closed down quicker, all contributed as much) he will look back at it and think he could have done more.
It doesn't make him a poor keeper though, and as it stands there is nobody at the club who's better than him, and I personally don't think there's anyone better in the Prem, or at least there's nobody in the Prem I'd replace him with. He's not even hit his peak as a goalkeeper and if he irons out the couple of weaknesses he has then there's nothing to stop him being our Number 1 for the next decade.

I'd be more than happy if Joe never played for England again along with the rest of our England contingent. The crap they receive from playing an England international game is beyond ridiculous.

Stop fishing

He aint believe me !! You only have to keep looking at the rest of his posts ref Joe.
I was fishing.... its like shooting in a barrel sometimes!
In my honest opinion Hart is our best goalie obviously but he needs to take a good look at himself and not believe the hype, get back to basics and just concentrate on his own game.

He is our best keeper but he did haves poor season last season with a few errors and not many really good games.

His distribution towards the end of the season in particular was woeful.

He does need to improve to be included in the world class category.

He's a good keeper. Very good but not world class.
That was a clanger he dropped last night and basically
He has carried on from where he left off last season
I just hope he gets his head on this season and concentrates
on what he his paid to do.
I also agree with some other posters on here. - if Joe
or any other City player never donned an England shirt
ever again I wouldn't give a toss.

I don't think 'competition' works with keepers. They don't just get dropped because the 2nd choice looks good in training. Generally if the keeper doesn't let in too many soft goals and stays fit he stays 1st choice. The keeper on the bench must wait for either a series of mistakes or an injury to the number 1 before getting his chance.
Keepers just don't get 'rotated'. They could get a cup run from the off (don't mention the final) but they know the score. Waiting and staying fit and sharp is part of their game. Given being one of the 'i want first team football' exceptions.

allow me - you're absolutely correct!

Thank you.

I think Joe would accept that he should have saved it - ofc it would be worse if it'd gone through is legs at 2 miles an hour with him fully sighted. But that's not really the point (and he was also 2nd in the unforced errors category last season). A keeper of his class should have saved it, and it's not the first one in that category over the last year or so. Regardless of all this - and which is my point - he can only benefit from greater competition, can't he?

Sorry - small matter of a day at work and family life got in the way :)

I disagree fundamentally. No sacred cows. Competition is good.

no doubt oakiecokie will have a hissy fit at me commenting on hart but i'm going to say my piece again anyway...

he's obviously got it in his locker e.g dortmund last season, which was one of the great goalkeeping displays.

but more and more over the last few years he's starting to drop clangers. i don't know whether it's over confidence or him losing confidence but something's not quite right with him. all keepers make mistakes but it's becoming more regular and being 2nd in the league for unforced errors isn't good enough for a top 2 club.

i'd hate to see him lose it but it seems like him and de gea have swapped goalkeeping coaches. we'll have to see how it goes the first half of this season but i'd hope we're keeping an eye on one or two until then.
