John Hunt Radio 5 Live - Family Murdered

Disappointed with itv news last night, after 3 hours of football the main story was about the match and not this, at least BBC news led with it then went back to the match.
Football is and always should be distraction from reality all be it a great distraction.
I remember a staunch socialist putting me in my place back when city won the league cup in the seventies and I thought it was the best thing in the world, son he said "football was invented to occupy us on the weekends so we don't notice how shit our daily grind in factories and mines (us) really is"
I thought what a miserable fucker he was and couldn't understand why City wasn't the greatest thing ever. He didn't support anyone and didn't dislike football, he just saw it in a different way.
Almost 50 years later (and it could be an age thing) he gave me a perspective that I can enjoy the ups and downs of football but it has to be in it's place.
What happened to this family yesterday was a terrible thing to happen to any family and no matter who or where they come from, it was bigger news than the match.
Football can only ever be a sport, nothing more. Shankly once said that football was more important than life or death. He was wrong. I was gutted after the Wembley no show last season. But then you try to imagine what that poor bloke is going through these days.

There really are no words to express the horror of this. My thoughts are with John and his daughter and their family and friends.

This.

Although i'm not sure if repeating 'if i was him, i'd kill myself' is helpful.

I hope he somehow finds strength to get through this. perhaps help others in future who face similar. No idea. It's a very sad story.

Where've you read that mate?

Sure I read it on Sky News, was part of an article talking about a text message that was sent to but cannot find it now. Infact I've only read Sky News today so no idea why I would think that up otherwise. Confused now.

Oh goodness, this is horrible. One of those crimes that makes you feel sick to your stomach.

RIP Carol, Hannah and Louise.

Thoughts are with John Hunt and his remaining daughter tonight. I can't imagine what they're going through.

I hope the murderer feels the full force of the law.
I hope he hangs himself.

Never mind the force of the law

I certainly wouldn't mourn him.

I can also understand the approach of wanting him to live so that he can suffer the consequences of his actions (but then, I'm not sure keeping him alive in prison for several decades is the best use of my taxes...).

In some murder/manslaughter incidents the perpetrator is able to give the victim's family some closure by explaining what led them to do what they did and expressing remorse. If someone causes the death of someone you love in a moment of rage or carelessness or stupidity, there's something to be said for them acknowledging it, apologising and feeling the full force of what they've done. It by no means fixes the harm, but might help you live with it.

But this is a case of premeditated, cold-blooded horrific cruelty - I can't think of a single thing he could say that would give any comfort to those poor women's loved ones.
