John Motson dies aged 77

Wasn't it Motty that said City were playing the most exciting football this country has ever seen? RIP mate.

Motty was great. No bias, no politics, just impartial coverage and a colourful turn of phrase. I wish we still had commentarors like him. He was someone who looked for a positive angle to celebrate the sport we all love instead of making snide and negative comments like modern day commentators. RIP.

RIP

Never got the love in and never got he is a "national treasure" but he loved his football.

Fond memories of my childhood listening to Motty and the great Barry Davies on MOTD. Got the feeling he never liked the modern Manchester City but enjoyed watching Bell, Lee, Summerbee, Tueart etc. RIP Motty, thanks for the memories.

He refused to commentate at Goodison Park because of the precarious route up to the gantry. Tbf it is a death trap. Because of this the crew used to fight over Everton home games. Make of that what you will. He was an awkward customer in that everything had to be just-so and he wasn't shy at letting you know. But a real pro and would always thank people at the end.

Always insisted on having a Kitkat by his comms box (not chunky!) and had his own (male) PA who looked after him at every game. (I'm not insinuating anything at all by that btw)

Rest in peace, Motty!
