John Motson dies aged 77

R.I.P,always preferred Barry Davies

With the utmost respect, I have to concur to the above.

But, R.I.P Motty, grew up listening to him on MOTD from the days of Jimmy Hill when they only showed two matches and Bob Wilson had a slot on there.

The Ronny Radford goal is iconic as is his sheepskin coat, but the match that always makes me think of Motson commentating is the Euro 84 Franvce vs Portugal semi final where it seemed like he was losing his voice (PLATINI...GOAL!!!!) as he was so engrossed in the match!!

My personal favourite commentator was always James Alexander Gordon. Got straight to the point.
When he went up to approach the Pearly Gates he'd have known right away if he was going in or going downstairs from the way St. Peter intoned the first syllable of his name.

Sam Matterface is a right tw*t isn't he?

A few tributes were being paid on Talkshite last night, Ratterface contributes and then f*cking makes it about him. Horrible bloke.

Motson remained loyal to the BBC for 47 years, surpassing Barry Davies to become the undisputed choice for big footballing occasions. “With every offer I had, the BBC reacted in such a way that I opted to stay,” he said. “I come from the generation who watched the BBC. It’s my heritage. Working with the BBC is like working for Manchester United.”

Well the BBC and that lot are one and the same…..

RIP John, a lot of us grew up with him.

His latter bits on radio were awful but in his heyday he was head and shoulders above anything we've had, the only guys who could go close were Davies & Coleman.

Just watched the Motty and Clough video on the Beeb webshite. Clough was a visionary he could see the bias analysis and bollocks in the studio back then.
