John Stones - 2017/18 performances

He started against Brighton when we played a back three, think he was rested/dropped against Bournemouth when we reverted to a back two, after he was subbed of against Everton because Walker was sent off.

You'd have thought with how crucial he is to the way we play out of the back he'd have been 1st choice. But then if Kompany had stayed fit and we played two at the back like we are now then Stones wouldn't have been a starter. And given how we setup at the back end of last season it's fair to think that Otamendi and Kompany were the first choice pairing in Pep's mind.

I am glad things have turned out the way they have btw. Especially for Stones. I guess my point must be that Kompany's injuries have been somewhat of a blessing in disguise for Stones's development.

He's so fucking good. Lost count of the number of times he had the ball with Burnley pressing and he just played a perfect pass that launched yet another attack.

in any other season where we aren't averaging 5 goals a game there's an argument for him being our player of the season at this point.
