Walker is not an upgrade on Zabba. Stones is not as good a defender as Lescott was. We need to splash some serious money to fill these spaces .

I think the criticism he received from last night was not attributed to lack of options to play it out from the back, but more towards his positioning (or lack of) at set pieces and taking a stupid risk / poor decision making.

As for people saying get rid after last night, I have read most posts and dont recall seeing any, can you quote them?

One of several that I could have picked out from the match thread and post-match thread. I'm not interested in a witch hunt of anybody. I just think that this assessment is seriously wrong, especially as far as City are concerned.
By the way: it's clear that in any case we need another centre half, with Vin gone.

Lescott was awful on the ball, couldn't play out from the back under pressure. His technical ability was of a League 1 player.

Walker is a better passer than Zaba and Zaba didn't have the pace and athleticism that Kyle has which is one of key reasons why he was brought here - to prevent counterattacks. Besides, Kyle is a good defender 1 on 1 to cope with oppositions tricky wingers because of Kyle's unbelievable athleticism and being a bit of cnut in a good way. Zaba was better offensively, especially regarding those overlapping runs. But like somebody pointed out already, Kyle's footballing IQ is pretty low, therefore, he lacks positional sense and how to defend in a system.

When Pep scouts a centre half, he has to fit this criteria:

1. Good on the ball, technically astute, good passer

2. Able to step out and bring the ball forward

3. Able to play out from the back under pressure

Then there is a massive gap.....

4. Overall defending etc.

Because for Pep the best form of defence is when your team has the ball.

Does Maguire fit that criteria?

I'm a big fan of Stones and would love him to become the classy dominant centre half he shows in glimpses. Unfortunately, it seems to be for a few months at the start of the season and then when it gets to the business end he can't get a look in.

He's 25 now, he's not got the excuse of youth anymore. Next season is huge for him and it'll probably make or break his City career.

I get it about the lack of options, etc. Last night, but he needs to adapt to the situation better.

Maguire is certainly good on the ball, especially for his size. He can certainly play out from the back how Pep wants. His biggest flaw is lack of pace and mobility. I couldn't care less if he costs 20mil or 80 mil, I'm not the one who pays, it's only for internet trolls to troll.

Buckle up john it's your turn

there is a time and place to take risks. Once John works that out, he will improve. Last night was simply stupidity in such a meaningful game

It's not just mistakes on the ball. Its concentration. Its failure to anticipate danger on the pitch. He lost De Ligt from three separate corners. It's great that he tries to be courageous when in possession but his actual defending was awful too.

He had a bad game. Let's not overreact like the British Media.
