John Stones - 2019/20 Performances

I’ve just pointed out he won the initial header (clearing the initial danger) in the build up to United’s goal, where they had to pass to the other side to create the chance because he was properly defending his side. And if he had engaged Rashford 40 yards out, he would have likely been done for pace (just like if Dinho or Nico did it), and you would have complained he can’t defend. He was doing what he should have, trying to stop the quick forward progress to allow for his teammates to get back in to position to help him. He is not at fault for that strategy not working or Bernardo coming in from the side to fell Rashford.

But it is obvious your opinion is set, he’ll always be **** and to blame for our problems in defence, regardless of his performances, so there’s no reason to continue to debate it.

No, I would have been absolutely shocked and stunned that he attempted to make a tackle but yet again he chooses to not get involved.

We've just spent the past few years watching Vincent Kompany and now he’s gone we are watching John Stones. You’ve been watching one of the best ever in his position in the Premier League, you have seen what a top-class centre back looks like, it should be an absolute piece of piss to assess that Stones is levels below what is required.

Mate, I never said he was yet at Kompany’s level. I even had a long, tedious debate about how I was assessing Stones (both in general and compared to Kompany) and why I think he could *eventually* get there.

Again, we’re not going to agree on this, and judging from the match thread, most have given up on Stones (and a fair few others, actually), so it’s not worth filling this thread with more posts defending him.

Said this in the match day forum, but hardly surprised he got injured when the going got tough. The mental strength of a goldfish.

Agreed. Apologies, I don’t mean to have a go at you, I’m just really pissed off losing to that shower of shite.

I am, too — especially as I have an absolutely **** weekend/week ahead and this result doesn’t help it at all, obviously.
