Fern might be a better defender than Stones but I think Laporte/Stones partnership will work better, you can have only one leader in the defense so it's either Fern or Laporte.

I think you lot massively overrate centre back partnership dynamics.

Eric Garcia was bossing Otamendi and Fernandinho around 2 weeks ago. Not because he's a super talented leader at 19 on his league debut, but because he knows the system and knows where people should be, and they weren't there.

As long as they know the system and are communicating effectively, you don't need a leader and a follower.

Today was totally emblematic of the John Stones experience. He starts off nicely, moving the ball along well, looks to be finally getting fit again, even plays a few nice passes! Then he gets out muscled and we lose two points. Cool.
