John Stones

There's no doubt Stones has potential and can probably play in CDM as well but he is prone to mistakes. That said, we need to increase our HG quota and that always adds a premium to any transfer. Denayer will qualify as HG but Pep will need to have a good look to see what he can do with him. The problem we have is that the HG players we've been linked will be very difficult to get without paying silly money, e.g. Rose, Bellerin. Others like Wilshire, Chamberlain may not be so difficult and would allow us to move on a player like Delph.

We do not need to up our HG quota.

We're currently maxed out on association trained players with Hart, Clichy, Delph, Sterling.

None of them are going to leave, so getting more HG players would do nothing for us.

Look at it this way. Mourinho despite being a massive **** is one of the most successful managers there is and he's been after Stones for 2 years. Guardiola who has won fucking everything and widely claimed as the best manager in the game today wants Stones. Barcelona one of the most successful teams ever were after him. So what's more likely that they are all wrong about Stones or you are?

There is a common theme in Bluemoon at the moment, especially in the Stones and Sane threads. People are living in the past around transfer fees. There is just no way in the world you are going to buy the most promising young English defender for less than 30-40m. In Khaldoon and Soriano we have some of the most astute business minds in the world, in Pep we have one of the best footballing minds in the world. Between them, their judgement of who we should and shouldn't buy and how much we should spend on them is good enough for me. Bring on Stones, bring on Sane

Paying for potential, though I do get what you are saying. You can't deny his footballing ability, so if we can coach the defensive side into hi, we will have one hell of a player. On the cost, 2 words... Troy Deeney
I deny his footballing ability.

I concede he can pass as well as any other professional player. He is just an ordinary defender who happens to be English. Reminds me of Boyata but with confidence. :-)

We will once again pay a fortune for a likely dud. If he was cheap then great otherwise I'd prefer to bring someone through our academy.

City still want to sign John Stones but the Euro 2016 tournament is holding up deals. [MEN]

Have the ITK's heard anything new about this deal?
I have heard that it is practically done. Just want to find out if that is true or not.

From what I've seen on my side, there is definite interest from both parties (City and Stones). We already knew that. But that's as far as it goes. The Euros have got in the way of any transfer and nothing will happen until they're done.

Strange, as I was very sure we were going to keep Stones and move Lukaku on, but it seems Koeman has decided to put his foot down over Lukaku. He obviously thinks he would be of more use (and as a 25+ goal a season striker, I can see why) and Stone's sale will be used to battle FFP so that money can be poured in for some big name signings.

Koeman will have the last word on the matter and if he wants Stones to stay, he will. However, it appears he's willing to sacrifice him for overall improvement. Will be interesting to see how this works out.
