At the very least we should be forcing Chelsea to up their bid to over £30 million. You don't let a rival have a free run at obtaining a very limited commodity. Given our past experiences with Everton i'd expect them to rinse them for considerably more than what's being quoted in the press. Chelsea are now in a weaker position than us in terms of homegrown players, They've got Fabregas Cahill Terry and Begovic and i think that's it? Their youngsters look decent but none of them look ready to step up. Everton should be able to name their price for him, especially with other teams (mainly us) snapping up all the homegrown talent. Who else could they realistically sign that would have any sort of impact on their squad? I'm sturggling to think of a single player now other than Stones. Will also be Interesting to see the reaction of the media if he does go for around that figure. In my eyes that's considerably more inflated than the Sterling fee

very well said.

Mourinho is a nasty piece of work and RA too. We need to upset their applecart big time. time for a forcing bid that exceeds theirs by €5m

It'll be interesting to see how the Stones to Chelsea saga plays out. Martinez is happily playing the 'outraged manager' role and (quite correctly) condemning Chelsea's public pursuit of the player. Chelsea are acting like they couldn't give a toss what Everton think so maybe they've had some encouragement from the player. Hopefully Everton will stand firm for a while and take Chelsea for well over 30 million, but ultimately Kenwright won't want to miss out on a big fee. I can't honestly see him getting a great amount of game time at Chelsea, even if they're planning for Terry's retirement he was still the best CB in the Premiership last season. Stones is no better than Denayer is at the moment so wouldn't want us to bid for him.

And a better class of homegrown player too, because he's club trained, not just association trained.

He'd presumably replace Cahill, who'd become experienced backup, and eventually be Zouma's partner at CB.
