John Stones

I know it's Friday and all that,but it's still a bit early.

I think Evertonians are beginning to see that these new owners aren't going balls deep with anything. They might invest a little more than Kenwright would've done but as long as their wage structure doesn't change and their ambitions in the transfer market don't change they won't keep players like Stones and Lukaku. Be interesting to see if privately they are trying to tie these two lads up to longer term deals on big big money. That would be some kind of statement of intent. Simply holding onto Stones and Lukaku by sticking unrealistic valuations on them isn't showing any ambition at all. It's showing naivety unless they back it up with players who will help them go up a level.

In short, I think he's saying that Everton should 'put up or shut up' but won't, in his opinion, be doing the former anytime soon

That was my other post about Everton in general. The point I was making to @mosssideblue was simply that whatever his personal opinion might be of the defensive qualities of John Stones he is clearly a player who Pep wants. Coupled with Pep's recent comments about how he likes midfielders in the back four because of their passing ability and also general ability on the ball it suggests that being a top defender (which Huth and Morgan were for example for Leicester last season) isn't the top priority for Pep when choosing which defenders to sign. It was related to the question he posed at the end of his post where he asked "do you rate his ability to defend?". Shame he couldn't make sense of my post though as I'd be curious to see what his answer would be.
