John Stones

Has there ever been a more divisive transfer on bluemoon? I haven't been following this thread at all but it's likely to get to 1,000 pages if it goes down to the last hours. @TRUE BLUE NO1 would you be so kind to as sum it up for me. Have we **somewhat** come to a consensus as if we want to bring Stones in? Or is it a massive split opinion?

I think it's pretty obvious Everton have us bent over the table here. I wonder how much hard negotiating there is left to do or if there are other factors playing in *IE they want Bony but need to see if anyone bites on their crazy valuation of Lukaku. We can't obviously know but it appears this one is going all the way to the end.

Hi, Consensus?...absolutely not mate!;) We have a very big split of opinion. Some love him and think he'll be a world class CB, others dont mind if we miss out and say he's not worth the price! Everton have started to be linked with a few CB's in the transfer market (Williams, Fonte etc) so look like they setting up the ground work for Stones leaving but if you believe rumours, it seems like there could be a 10mil valuation gap between what Everton want and what we are willing to give at the moment. I think we'll find a middle ground to get it done but Yes, this could go on for a while. I'm one of those that think a season under Pep will make his potential a reality and he'll be our starting CB for the next 5-10years....He's the type of ball playing CB Pep wants/needs to play his style and I think 50mil could look like a bargain in 2 years time!;)

I think he probably would. Mangala isn't back in training yet, and Kompany is still injured. It'd be between Adarabioyo, Denayer and Stones (assuming we get him) to partner Otamendi, and I suspect Stones would get the nod.
I've noticed Mangala isn't training. What's happening there?

Clichy played in the Euros as apposed to sitting on the bench yet is back on the pitch.

I really want Stones but part of me wants it delayed till just after the Arsenal game, so in Pep's first proper game there's a good chance that a local lad; Adarabioyo, will get a start, I think that would be a great beginning to this era.

Cheers :) Appreciate your contributions.

You still think he will go with four at the back?

My bad. I thought the poster was asking would he go straight into the line up for Sunderland

Its a tricky one. Stones and Mangala are probably at a similar stage in terms of fitness. Mangala & Otamendi are used to playing together, even if not in Pep's system. If we didn't have the CL qualifiers to contend with, I don't think Mangala would play again for City. But he might be the safer option in August until Stones has a few weeks of training with Pep. Similarly, I think the CL qualifiers makes it less likely, but not impossible, that either Tosin or Denayer will start.

Id disagree about Mangala being as match fit as stones. The last time Mangala would of played 90 minutes will be coming up to 3 months by the time the season starts , at least stones has been getting match fit at Everton

Good point. I'm just assuming he will, but it's difficult to say for certain. He's experimented a bit in the friendlies so far, but I'd be surprised if he started with a back three. I think he'll wait until all the centre halves are fit before trying that competitively.
