John Stones

Maybe my main point is he is a quality player when fit and has run of games in the side.

He hasn't been fit for 4 years and my point now is that he won't get that get the run of games required to get back into the groove of being a quality player.

Sorry, but no he isn’t. Pep starts a 19 yo Garcia and 35 yo DM Fernandinho ahead of a fit Stones. Pep is not happy with him.

I think for Pep to feel a bit better about his transfer choices over the years in defence (considering he now has bought Stones, Laporte and Aké, plus another one coming in), is to cash in on Stones who was initially considered a long-term right-sided centreback.

Also remember what Pep said about Stones a few month ago: ”We’ll have a talk. I want what is best for him”.

It’s impossible to come to any other conclusion other than Stones being shipped off.

Stones is much better than Garcia but I accept Pep is not happy with him, probably lifestyle who knows. I really do not get the fascination with Garcia I really don’t.

I think keep john, as you say better choice than anyone else's 4th choice, Eric cant be allowed to run his contract down,he has value to barca,he has euro's to play for so sell him

It's not as if the Premier League is full of world class central defenders. Most teams, if you put the best bits of all their centre backs together, you still wouldn't have a top class one.

The problem with Stones is that he's unreliable as a main cb, not that he's total shit. We need to buy a proper cb & if Stones is willing to fight for his place, just use Stones as backup over the season.

If he does get his shit together then he becomes a challenger. Upto him.

If we don't get a cb & end up using him or Garcia as 1st choice, we will end up with Fernandinho there again.

In what universe?

Garcia is a product of world famous talentpool La Masia academy. He’s a high quality defender for his age and he will only get better.

Garcia almost instantly made an impact when he started getting games in the league and played alongside Laporte. He barely made any mistakes and he was excellent against Liverpool. A really good centreback and levels above a John Stones who should be nearing his prime.

It might not be fun to hear because Garcia wants out and Stones wants to stay and fight for his place, but it’s the truth. The club was so disappointed to hear about him not wanting to extend. He would have been an amazing fourth choice.

Using Garcia is one of the worst managerial decisions we've seen for many years & if it was anyone other than Pep, nobody would be papering over just how shit it has been.

Stones is better & it's not even close.

Decent chance Garcia will finish Pep's City career if he plays regularly & maybe Laporte's too.

This thread is starting to get very raggish, people are so quick to slag a player off who has been having a tough time on an off the pitch. Whatever decision the club come to with regard to Stones I am fine with. But i wont forget his contribution to our success while has been here.
