Very strange that Chelsea would make such a statement I think. I mean it's pretty obvious that City would not have directly said anything and anything leaked to the media can easily be ignored or counteracted by some choice comments from the player himself.
For example we can (and have) released a statement that Robinho was going no where. It made us fans feel better. But to others it could have been perceived as defensive. Robinho coming out with his own statements (which he did) might have sufficed. Perhaps though in our case believe find it hard to believe Robbie (whereas Terry's word would be taken as gospel).
I'm sure we'll get slated tomorrow because of this. It's not going to bother me though, as it doesn't matter what we do we get slated.
If I was Cookie I'd move on to other targets and just ignore Chelsea. When asked about the story just state we never talk about or to players at other clubs without their approval. Say something along the lines of how we are determined to work in an honourable manner despite the bad press we get. Basically hold the moral high ground. If Terry really wants to come let him beg Chelsea to call us.
