Joleon Lescott

Worked his socks off, waited for his chance and then never looked back.

Most improved player by a long way IMO.

Lescot is a pre-reaction defender he is the only one who will follow the ball in when a shot has been hit on our goal! I feel the goals in Munich would of been prevented if Lescot was playing

Since last Christmas it'd be a close run contest between him and Micah.

I know what you mean Micah has been superb.

For me though playing at centre half is much more pressurised and key to having a solid defence. which is why I think Lescott has become such a superb player for us.

He's certainly a lot more compossed with the ball this year. Last season when the ball came to his feet I often found myself shouting "don't panic Joleon, it's only a football".

The difference this year as well is Lescott has managed to put his £22m price tag to bed. When he first arrived he was carrying it around like a mill-stone round his neck!

We love to moan! He has been great for us, vinny would of beniited from him too. STOP TRYING TO FIND FUCK ALL TO MOAN ABOUT

So because he can do 50 simple short passes to either another defender or our midfield he is suddenly Messi with the ball at his feet?

Yes, this is exactly what it means. He didn't earn the name Joelinho for nothing.

both Barry & Lescott take some shit on here, but IMO I think they are both outstanding most weeks for us. Unsung hero's.

Seriously Freestyler, all you have just done is proved to everybody with a football brain you are clueless when it comes to footballing matters in judging how good a defender is.

Since when do you have to be good on the ball to be a class centre back ? The job of a centre half if you didn't know is to keep the ball out of the net, something which Joleon has proved on a consistent basis.

Is Lescott good on the ball ? NO.

Is Kolo good on the ball ? YES.

Is Lescott an excellent centre back ? YES

Is Kolo an excellent centre back ? NO.

Same comparison can be made with Ferdinand and David Luiz.

You claim he is uncomfortable on the ball when an opposition player is within 5 yards of him ? Do you have any evidence to back your point up or any particular examples of this scenario happening or taking place ?

He has been our best centre back for a long time, and his positional ability is streets ahead of Kompany.

It's not that people say he's rubbish with it at his feet, it's the fact and i will admit i'm one of these people who say it..

when he has the ball and a player is within 10 yards of him he's so uncomfortable on the ball.

a high percentage rate looks good when you pass the ball to another player, who's no more than 5 yards away, 25-30 times a game.

the point is he can't pass a ball further than 15 yards forward without giving it away, and his get out if he can't is a huge lump forward.

anyway his passing forward doesn't concern me, i just wish he would stop twatting it forward for no reason.

down to a tee i'm afraid but he has shown considerable improvement this season i'll give him that. Would still like to see another world class centre back at the club however...
