In all honesty, no one wants to operate this way but that's the reality of it. Player recruitment and selection isn't a science, I don't even know if you can call it an art. It's a judgement call at a point in time dependent on what player is available at what price. Clubs have to do their due diligence but ultimately every signing is a gamble. No one knows how any player is going to turn out until he's wearing your shirt.
If we were to look objectively at any top club you would find players bought, tried, judged not good enough and moved on. Just look at one of the most successful managers of the Prem era, Ferguson, how many duds did he buy in his time? Loads. But no one batted an eyelid because ultimately it didn't matter. He delivered success on the pitch which paid for everything, mistakes and all.
I don't want to insult anyone here but City as a club has moved on to bigger things, the fans need to move on with them.
I get your point about red nose mate but he also made a shitload on some players like Beckham & ronaldo
We never seem to make on any player, and we just seem to spunk money on players that will be worthless at the end of their contract
Our purchasing is woeful, 50 million on Stones, 40 million on Mangala, none of which are considered good enough to cover for VK if he gets injured
I know, its not our money, but it makes us look amateurish and a soft touch.....we got 3 mill for fucking Nasri, and I wouldnt be surprised if were paying part of his wages
I think we even lost money on Tevez

But 30 mill for JFE is getting just daft, he will be worthless at the end of his contract, as I said before Ive no idea how we get around the current ffp rules

Why is him wanting another center back a sign of him feeling the pressure? He wants to play 3 center backs and we've got 3 senior center backs, none of which are left footed.
There is no wrong in buying a quality CB. But buying JFE at 30 million for playing a 3 back system shows desperation.

Plans can change. I would be very surprised if Evans was in Pep's plans at the start of the window. Getting VVD would weaken Liverpool/Chelsea if Southampton are selling, it seems money better spent than Evans.
Edit: (As regards quite down to earth lad, he's been in trouble for spitting, 6 match ban, and rumours of other indiscretions)

The link shows a United fan making a comment that they hoped he would get a "lifetime ban" so he wouldn't have to play for United again.
They can, doesn't seem like we have 70mil to spend on VVD and Southampton seem pretty set (for once) about keeping him.

I didn't know that, I guess I just assumed it.

Shite....its up to 30m now? Wtf? I can't wait to see Evans playing a high line with otamendi
If we sign him I will be really worried. It reeks of desperation.

What the fuck is going on...??? The world has gone mad.

He's 30 in January you pedant and the price currently being bandied about is 30mil. That's WBAs alleged price. You know all that though you just like pretending to be a smart arse. Not pissing on my chips at all. To compare the purchase of Pique by Barca and Evans by us is pathetic.
I see the smiley was wasted on you so won't put another on this post

£30m? Deary me
Are there genuinely no hot prospects around in a centre back position we could have bought for similar? This guy will be 30 in a few months

He is a good player and could definitely do a job for us he is low risk as he knows the league. He is a left footed cb, good on the ball and a solid defender. He is no where near as bad as people are trying to make him out to be (although I may be biased I'm from northern Ireland). Even I will admit that 30mil is way too much but the market is mental at the minute and I can't think of many alternatives who are also low risk signings really don't think we can afford to sign another flop at the back.

3 at the back means we need more CBs. Imagine if VK got injured again, who do we put in? Tosin is far away from making it with us.

I think the biggest thing that attracts Pep is that he is a leader, we lack leaders at the back without Vinny. Stones and Otters look lost when left alone.

Sorry. I was struggling to deal with the other poster comparing the Pique transfer with this Evans one! The attempts to suggest this is good business are truly baffling me.

Is there a reliable source other than sun that are saying we will pay 30m? If its only sun them hold ure horses till its annouced. Wont be more than 25 including the add ons i think

No one knows how good or bad a signing Evans will be until he pulls on a City shirt and does the business. We'll have to wait and see. There's as many good points as bad to this signing, let's see what happens.
