Well we don't have anyone anywhere near as good as xavi or iniesta do we? They also had busquets, we don't have anyone anywhere near his level as well.
We do have Bernardo Silva who has all talent to be as good as Iniesta. And we'll bring in more press-resistant players next year (DM like Weigl, new DLP if Gundogan is affected by injuries too much and KdB doesn't work well there). The idea of midfield Pep is implementing at City is roughly the same as at Barca - there's no way round it if you want to have a dominant possession team.
Real Madrid is using the same concept now. Cruyff showed the way 30 years ago, Pep and Spain proved that he was right.

All the talk about 'enforcers' in midfield is strange, it's 2017, not 1997. Of course some height and muscles are required, but the idea is defending by team effort and pressing, closing passing lanes and setting traps. One more defensive specialist (say, Kante) in midfield would disrupt passing game/ball control and put his team under pressure, thus causing more damage than advantage.
Or, maybe I didn't get you right? What's your proposition?

Well said.

You're saying David silva is on par/better than busquets, you can't even compare them two busquets is comparable to dinho and busquets in his prime it's no contest. David silva is past prime, at this age to compare him to a prime iniesta/xavi is laughable.
David silva is for me the best ever player to wear the blue shirt mate so what u talking about? Spain's a shit league so Xavi and iniesta have had easy careers. Silva challenged himself and improved playing in England. Silva is on a par with iniesta and Xavi without a doubt! The only thing he needs to win with us for people to realise is the champions league.

Real Madrid do have a top defensive midfielder though in Casemeiro. Modric and Kroos have always been centre mids so they aren't comparable to David and kdb who are number 10s. We should buy two top class centre midfielders and control the game that way.

Silva is good, he's just not as good as iniesta or xavi and there's no shame in that. You won't get any non City fan disagreeing with that also. Silva isnt the same as he was 4 years ago, he would've suited this role a lot better when he was younger.

I disagree silva has still got great years ahead of him. Iniesta is still playing and Xavi played at the highest level way into his 30s I think silva can and will do the same with us. The guys an absolute legend IMO.

Silva's performances have not deteriorated a bit at City. His game is not pace-based so he's just as influential now as he ever was.

He's been better than Iniesta for the last 2 or 3 years.

And in the last 20 years how many titles were won without midfielders with a bit of defensive nouse. I can make it easier for you how many in the last 5 years?

Plenty of top European sides have that blend in their midfield perhaps they are all mike Bassett types as well. Even pep himself likes a guy who can get stuck in a bit

Yeah but the original point was made about trying to replicate the barca pep had when iniesta was in his prime.
Stats don't lie my friend Silva consistently has been top assist player in last 5-6 seasons & again on Saturday he sees a pass others don't & boy does he find it, unfortunately Aguero & others miss to many.

I don't understand your point, silva is a phenomenal player on that I agree but at this age is he anywhere near a prime iniesta? He isn't.
