Jose Mourinho

Even though we tick all the boxes for Mourinho, we are also a huge risk. It might be a serious dent to Mourinhos CV if he fails to qualify for Champions League or otherwise fails to get good results, which is more likely than in any other club he has managed before.

Not as much of a dent as going to Madrid and not winning.

We have no winning culture at City, easily cited as to any failings on Mourinho's part.

You don't seem to take in to account Mourinho's ego. The idea he could take over a top six (at worst) team, be given almost limitless resources and fail to qualify for the Champions League just doesn't register on his radar. Trust me, if Mourinho comes here, he will be focussed on the title, and he will demand the same focus from his players.

did anyone see that interview with Giancarlo, from la gazzetta on sky? it comes across that the italians don't like him because they don't need anyone preaching specialness' to them when they have their own home grown coaches

That's a fair point and partly why he may be waiting to see IF we get that place, as it is highly unlikely that he would not at least continue to match that next season. The issue then being, of course, whether it would be fair to ditch Mancini after such an achievement! I disagree that it is more likely that he would fail with City though than in any other club he has managed before - in fact, he is more likely to succeed.

Suppose it's a bit like humour being lost on different cultures.

Americans don't get sarcasm and irony.

Italians clearly don't care for Jose's special brand of ego.

As for his supposed being very open to a United offer. He has NEVER said this.

He conceded that he has great respect for what Baconface has achieved - that is all.

What about this?

"If you want me to rule out ever being Manchester United manager I can't," he told the News of the World. "Special clubs need special managers so in theory it could work, but nobody knows what the future is in football.
