I'd be very surprised if we went for a traditional left back, or went to attacking over lapping full backs, think the converted full backs are our thing for the forseeable.Except for Walker.
In a presser about 6 weeks ago, Pep said the reason for our recent formations & tactics is because we lack full backs who can get up & down the pitch to attack & defend how he wants, but this is something that would be addressed this summer.
I read a French article earlier featuring Bernardo, who told of how much he's learned from Pep. He said it took him a couple of seasons to "get Pep" & what he wanted.
He said that prior to City, both he & Mahrez were more dribblers, but with Pep the emphasis is more on one touch, two touch, pass & move in tactical patterns.
He also said the squad is always learning & the concentration levels needed to understand complex instructions & execute them in-game is unreal.
He said that every pre-season Pep changes something to stay one step ahead of the opposition who're always searching for the key to unlock Guardiola.
TAA playing an inverted role for the Dippers was cited as an example of other coaches following Pep's lead in trying to outfox clubs who've found a solution to their tactics. Arsenal have done the same with Zinchenko.
Pep loves having options & players intelligent, talented & flexible enough to take on board huge amounts of information to make in-game alterations to our advantage.
The one thing we lack in that respect is flying overlapping full backs, who are equally as effective attacking, as they are defending. If we can achieve this, it'll be yet another major tactical string to add to our bow.
