If Ake left, I don’t think there’s any chance we’d replace him with someone who will expect to start over 80% of our matches. So the only way there’s any truth to our interest is if Laporte is leaving, imo. And maybe both of them. If Laporte isn’t leaving then this would be fake news I reckon.

I personally think both will go mate. Laporte back to Spain as there is rumors his mrs wants to be close to her family with the baby and sunnier climates. We still should be able to get £60-70m for him though. Ake seemed to be wanting to go last summer and pep was open to that so I wouldn’t be surprised if he went in the summer again for £60m ish so we could bring in £120m ish for them two and spend say £80-90m on Gvardiol and make a big cash profit let alone the profit on the books for Ake and Laporte?

If we have the budget he has to be signed, even at the expense of present players, for me he is the Haaland of CB's, incredible and consistent performer at the highest level and at 20 years old, the guy is unbelievable.

Tend to agree, he has the makings of a legacy player for us.

I think we may have been trying to put down a marker, knowing the landscape with a couple of the squad next summer.

The report went very hard, no couching, whatsoever, which makes me believe it has some legs.

We have the money to do him and Bellingham and still be well inside budget.

Do we have the budget to do those two plus a winger? Because signing a winger has always seemed nailed on for the summer, imo. The links to Leao are always present, I think we like him a lot. Perhaps getting decent money for Laporte would make it possible to get all three. The mad thing is that it’s going to be another summer without a top class full back :D That position always gets relegated below others in terms of priority. Might be a risk with Walker’s age but Rico Lewis will be happy.

Since Akanji joined we’ve been quite bloated in the cb positions and have therefore played cbs in the fb positions to get minutes in their legs. Since all our cbs are very much square pegs in round holes for the fb positions it feels like good move to sell two of them and get a more versatile cb in.

Agreed mate, especially as stones unfortunately is going to pick up muscle injuries throughout the season? We could run with Dias, Gvardiol, Akanji and Stones and if need be Gvardiol could play LB?

From what I’ve heard we are tracking Gvardiol closely. Many clubs like him. Chelsea looked like favourites to sign him but now seem to be looking at alternatives. Internally we really like him and as @tolmie's hairdoo said he can put down a marker. We wanted him to replace Ake when it looked he wanted to leave last summer.
