So many posts saying we shouldn't be haggling over the last "10 or 15 million".

But that's equivalent to £50 on every season ticket for the next 5 to 8 years.

Or maybe it's the signing bonus that pays for Haaland to remove a release clause. Or a £10m punt on a young prospect who turns out to be the next Lionel Messi.

This is not monopoly money and we're already the best club side in Europe. Let's not slag off the management just cos FIFA23 would have got the deal done weeks ago.

Not like the club just made a record amount of money in revenue last season or anything…

Great post.

Football is an inherently different industry. The dynamic of footballs assets (i.e the players), means it becomes an auction. The only way that changes is if a player agitates for a particular club and rules out anyone else.

What makes this deal frustrating is a lack of other bidders in the auction house. In this instance, the asset wants City and City only. The price is set but we won't meet it.

Which of these two scenarios is better?

A.) We walk away and have an extra £15 million to put on the books.

B.) We pay a justifiably record fee and get the best young defender on the planet giving us a decade of service.

It's a fucking no-brainer. It's what makes the Rice situation galling; we've got an extra ~£10-15mil in the bank when we could have had a top class/potentially world class DM in our ranks to play a double pivot or deputise for Rodders should he suffer a lengthy injury. And we could have had him for years.

There's little justification for us to be scrimping given the position of financial power our chairman states we're now in and the stature our club currently holds.
Can anyone link me to where City have stated this:-
