Why ? I don't know but I'd guess we haven't because we believe we can get him for a price we are willing to pay. As there's no great urgency why pay more until we think we have to. We have the best transfer team in football they know what they are doing. We'll walk away when we think there is no point continuing.
There probably isn't another target if we don't get him we'll stick with what we have.
If we don't pay the price they want then we don't get the player.

We have shown what we should do with Van Dijk but seemingly we choose to end up in these pointless sagas that waste everybody's time and probably strain the relationships with clubs which we might need to deal with for a different player in the future.

Yeah that's fair, could have been his agent. But it's clearly fucked RBL off, there's no way we can be that far apart.
Well my thinking is if they are so pissed off it must have been quite accurate for them to believe it came from someone close to the deal.

Does seem like this has come via agents directly to Fabrizio, Leipzig adamant it’s not their end, now being reported it’s not our end.. Fabrizio is the one that tweeted ‘Exclusive’ so it’s possible he’s jumped the gun and the multiple reports off the back of that has pissed off Leipzig?
Sabotage, who are the agents.?

As with Brighton. Selling clubs will always sell, the fact they’ve priced him means they want to sell, else why would he be on the market now and why would there be any talks? They could have said to wait till a higher release clause kicks in next summer. It’s because they know no one is paying that, City are the only club who will go as high as possible.

Add to that they’ve been looking for replacements. They can play hard but we know how it goes.
You could say they are in a somewhat a “win-win situation” as they would be happy to sell for a massive fee but they would be very happy if he stayed one more season. They are under no pressure. It’s all up to City do something or walk away. Wasted enough time on this saga

With Szobo and Nkunku going to chelski and the dippers that took the financial pressure off them… now they are getting cocky. Cannot see how this was close to a done deal. They are acting like Brighton all of a sudden
they are not getting cocky and certainly not all of a sudden, gvardiol requesting to leave is the only reason all this is even happening. 4 years left on his contract, no release clause, head coach said earlier this year that the board knows he wants to keep gvardiol.
unless they’re not asking for 150m euros or something of course. if it’s about their original price how are they the bad guys now? they’re free to ask what they want, city are free to walk away. gvardiol is free to season his lunch with his tears.

they didn’t copy the whole post.

I saw that too.

Don't feel like it quite makes sense. Usually release clauses come down (if anything) as the years remaining on the contract reduce. They only usually go up if the player signs a new contract. I've not known them to go up during a contract, but I guess it's possible that his contract says that at certain ages the clause will increase.

And I wondered if it meant the release clause is higher next season than it is now, but that wouldn't make sense as we'd just pay the release clause now probably. So it means next year the release clause is higher than what we are currently offering?

All just seems weird.

Anyway,at least Laporte looks happy in the tour photos I've seen so far.

Definitely not the end of the world If we do walk away as we have a fantastic set of centre backs already. Would be frustrating though to spend this transfer time on a player with the price tag seemingly obvious at around 100 million euros to then not finalise it. My gut is this gets done eventually

This one isn't happening is it?

Can't see City budging from their valuation and I can't see Leipzig budging from their valuation.

Txiki is a very very stubborn operator. Once he sets a price, that's basically it.

Move on to the next target.

Why we have wasted months chasing this player when we could have brought in a winger before Mahrez ended up leaving is beyond me.
