But people are still thinking of a time when those centre backs are competing for just 2 positions. We don’t play that way now. There can be as many as 4 of them on the pitch at the same time, so going with 4 CBs to fill 4 positions leaves us very short.

It’s also essential for us to have a left footer on the pitch in this system for our build up, so there’s just no way Pep goes into the season with only one (Ake).

Gvardiol is actually perfect for what we need and I see him as being just as essential as the midfield signing(s).

He’s two seasons left on his contract, that’ll take him to 9 yrs and he’s said he’ll honour it. I’d like to think he’s already agreed to stay another year at least and make it 10… 12 would be better lol.

Agree, I know it’s probably not the right thread but I can’t see him leaving on 9 years. Think he’ll do one more personally.
 
Is he really that fast to handle quick wingers?...saw around 8 games this season from RBL & i would guess he`s faster than Dias/Laporte but slower than Ake/Akanji...perhaps level of Stones?

Full backs or centre backs playing full back don’t need to be that quick the way we have been playing they don’t overlap and they don’t stray that far forward.

idk...you need speed to defend fast wingers...Ake had to defend saka,rice,coman etc & Akanji rodrygo/Walker Vini etc

Yes but Ake and Akanji did it using positioning and strength not pace. Walker obviously had pace against Vinicius but I’d say Stones would do it differently to Walker but just as effectively.
