Hate the obsession with ball playing / creative defenders. Your job first and foremost is to be a good defender. It is what cost us winning the Champions League in recent seasons. Same loons that think Cancelo or dippers TAA are world class full backs when they are a shambles defensively. Id add Ake is decent at full back also - can we say the same about Eric? I like Laporte but he isn't better than Ake right now. Akanji can play right back and Ruben is a good leader, so by process of elimination if we are to move a defender on it has to be Eric. Personally would like to see him stay though, just can't fathom why we would be going for Gvardiol given our already strong options at centre back.

We sold Eric Garcia a few years ago?

He'll be off as soon as the Spanish offer comes his way.

Clearly the moody/sulky type like his mate Cancelo,both can bring in good money and give us the opportunity to bring in players far more committed.

At least Laporte's standards do not appear to have dropped,so fair play for that.

We don't play with a natural LB anymore. We play with a back three where the left CB spot is occupied by a left-footed CB (Ake or Laporte). Even when Cancelo was playing, he would move into midfield to form a double pivot with Rodri or Gundo. That's why he would create so many chances and make key passes - he was only behind KDB for these metrics.

Laporte might be solid in the summer, that's why Pep wants another left-footed CB, because Ake would be the only one left.

The pursuit of Cuccurela proves that we're on the lookout for a fullback who can play an inverted role as a central midfielder and not an out-and-out fullback.
