Ok, there are two concepts of value here. Both can be argued, but they're irreconcilable. One is that there is intrinsic value in something, and that it can be identified, and so it is objective. The other is that it's purely relative, and therefore subjective.

As an example - an antique piece of gold jewellery. It has intrinsic value equivalent to weight in gold when melted down but it's subjective value as na antique can be far higher. Are you overpaying if you pay more than the cost of gold if you buy it? Possibly, but it depends on it's resale value and the market - much like a footballer.

Basmati isn’t fancy. It’s your standard starting point for rice. At least it is in our house.
