Not worth bumping unless we miss out on Nasri for sure.

Why we would prefer Nasri to Mata is beyond my comprehension.

Maybe because we feel, Nasri would bring us something we dont have currently. And while Mata is a good player, is of the mold of Sliva, and I love Sliva, but its nice to have different type of players, just like how we we different type of strikers. Just a theory.

Could be, but one of the (of not thee) weakest aspect of our squad is the lack of a replacement for Silva. When he is out injured tired or whatever, we are a very reduced side. Mata could step into his shoes and do pretty much what Silva does, though not quite at the same level of awesome quality.

Maybe Nasri could too, but I'm a bit worried by his roller-coaster form curve; he seems to have pretty regular and lengthy falls, and only short periodical tops.
Nasri is good.
Mata is class.

That's unfair (and pretty much untrue). He is getting the blame from some on here for Arsenal's collapse last year it seems, but apart from that few weeks at the end (when his future may have been on his mind, or even being actively discussed) he has largely ranged from at worst good to at best magnificent during his time there - and he was still a kid through much of it.

He will, should we sign him, be a fan's favourite by Christmas IMO and one of those players who suddenly no one can remember ever doubting.

Exactly what we need to compliment Toure and Silva, and able to take some of the creative load off Silva too.

14.38 Inter Milan have bid €15m for Valencia's Juan Mata, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
Could that prompt Arsenal to make a concrete offer?

Re: Juan Mata is a must

Derisory offer (€15m), it'll take a fair bit more than that. But I'd prefer him to go to Inter than a domestic rival.

15 million Euros!!! Get in there City. Put 23 million pounds on the table and get the guy into training. Far better then Nasri. Let Arse keep him and get this guy.

Arsenal are ready to sign Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla

This week could be the busiest in the history of the transfer market for Arsenal. We firmly expect the whole Fabregas saga to end this week at it is being reported that Barcelona’s vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu is in London this weekend and wants to meet Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis to submit a new £35million offer for Fabregas.

£35million is still short of Arsenal’s £40million valuation of the player but I am sure a deal can be reached by the two clubs. With the money from selling Fabregas, Wenger does not plan to waste any time on spending and it is thought that he will spend all the money on Valencia’s Juan Mata and Villarreal’s Santi Cazorla.

Both players are capable of playing on the both wings or in a more central attacking role. This would give Wenger endless possibilities for our midfield and attack.

What do you think of this link? Is it wise to buy both these players as a replacement to Fabregas?

Re: Juan Mata is a must

I don't believe that there is any player on this planet who City don't have a file about, from what the club have said. Just because we are not being linked with him in the press doesn't mean we are not thinking about him. We also have an easy point of reference in that he is David Silva's best friend. I think we are playing a very patient waiting game, and the club should be applauded, getting the right pieces to fit in our jigsaw.

Not heard this, is it genuine?

Swanson reported it from the states. Said Khaldoon arrived at the team hotel in Santa Monica to speak with Cook.

I presume Swanson was speculating it was regarding transfers.

Yup, been there since Friday 'to discuss transfer targets'...............

I still believe we need Aguero, Nasri, Sneijder, Mata and Higuain. Considering the players we've got to off-load before September those five will massively increase the quality of our squad's gene pool and make us a serious force to be reckoned with and cost us less in wages than those we have to let go.

And before anyone starts going on about FFPR, if we sold all our deadwood and got near £50m for Tevez our total outlay for the above would amount to approximately £60m-70m which is not much more than The Rags & Pool have spent so far this pre-season and around the same as Pool & Chelsea spent in January.

This is what Mancini was alluding to in his interview the other day, not quantity, but quality with strength in depth. If we are serious about wanting to make an impact on all four fronts next season, we need to invest now & cross the FFPR bridge when we come to it.

I've always said that we needed another two big transfer windows to build the squad that can compete effectively with the giants of European football, but if FFPR forces us to do all our shopping in one window, then so be it! lets just get it done FFS!

Just imagine...... All the deadwood gone including Tevez, and we add Aguero, Nasri, Sneijder, Mata and Higuain to our squad along with Chichy & Savic and the existing players we have already retained.............. any club playing Manchester City would be stupid not to be afraid and that would include Barca, Real & The Rags!!!!

Aguero, Nasri and Sneijder would do me mate. Greedy bugger :-).

Serious overkill there, how would you give Aguero/Balotelli/Dzeko/Higuain/Guidetti/Silva/Mata/A. Johnson/Nasri/Sneijder playing time in the attacking roles? That sort of stockpiling might even put Real to shame as only 4 of those 10 players could start every game once you get past the four defenders and the two regular midfielders out of De Jong/Barry/Yaya/Milner.

Interesting. Would love to be able to afford one of News International's contacts to tap into Cookey and Khaldoon's mobiles over the next week or so! :-)
