Juanma Lillo leaves to become Al-Sadd Head Coach

If this is true, it's great news. Juanma Lillo was the coach here in Salamanca, in the 1990s, and got the team (UD Salamanca, now sadly disappeared) promoted from Segunda B to Segunda and then to Primera.

He was only in his mid twenties when he came to Salamanca, but he got us playing football that few teams could even dream of in those days.

Pep has always said that he based much of his coaching on what he learned from his intimate friend Juanma Lillo.

Is he high profile enough? Not saying we need a superstar manager to replace pep, but a bloke most people have never heard of might not be the best in attracting new players.
Lillo wasn't very successful as a head coach, worked in bottom-table/midtable clubs at best. He won't be replacing Pep, I'm pretty sure about it. Could be a great appointment as an assistant though.

Not per se, I just think City will look at bringing in a younger coach when Guardiola eventually leaves. Could be wrong, of course.

I dont think anyone at city is looking for a 10 year manager to succeed hin, I think whoever replaces Pep is just going to be continuing what he did. A Tito Villanova figure to try and just extend that Pep dynasty for a few more seasons.

You could see at times this season the team were not clicking together fluently enough for Pep so Hopefully Lilo will help with that and many more things.

See my previous post!
Yup, I also remember him being sacked from Almeria after losing 8-0 to Pep's Barca. Lillo, whilst being a famous tactical ideologist, just isn't high profile enough as a head coach to be Guardiola's successor.

It was actually his stint with Oviedo that caught Guardiola's eye after Salamanca. Lilo also recruited Pep to play for Dorados in Mexico after he effectively stopped playing in Qatar and began his pursuit of coaching, before he took the B team job in 2007. Pep has talked about this before that signing specifically for Sinaloa was really just to learn from Lilo's coaching.

People love the story about Guardiola driving hours to meet with Bielsa and talk tactics but I also found his stint in Mexico textbook Pep - he took his own path. It's a great choice, let's see how it translates to the play on the pitch

Good read, for those interested

Sounds to me like a bit of a specialist in positional play. Those 14 jobs for a year look like consultancy, sorting out and laying down a system to be followed when he is gone. That could just be what we need to recapture our fluency. If Pep rates him, that's good enough for me.
Edit PS Another sign of confidence for CAS appearance?
