My point isn't about any of the other clubs. It is about us.
If there are two things we have been told over and over again, by Tolmie himself amongst others, it is that a)'the club always want almost total commitment from players that it is us they want to join above all else', and b) that we 'don't do bidding wars'.
If even one, or both, of the earlier claims are true, i.e that he has agreed terms with 4 clubs, and it is now about who can agree a fee with Dortmund, then simply put, he is not our guy.
just because he’s explored his options doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be totally committed - i can see what you’re saying because i also only want players who really want to be here - but it’s not good business sense to not see what other clubs can offer in terms of personal terms. he would be daft not to use this as an opportunity to see what other offers are on the table and use that to leverage and negotiate a better deal with the club he chooses. odds on this will be a long term deal and i can’t blame him for wanting to understand what his options are.
i can’t see this being a bidding war - and we would’ve distanced ourselves a long time ago if we thought it would come to that. madrid are just posturing for the media and the fans. i’m fully expecting the whole oil money shebang when he signs for us - poor madrid couldn’t afford him when in reality they never intended paying what he was valued at by BVB
