Agustin being better than Julian. Similar tier. Agustin is better in the air, back to goal and off ball movement. I think Julian is better on the ball, in space and has a stronger weaker foot.
I didn’t say Agustin IS better than Julian, I’m just visualizing his potential to be better all around in a few years. (Also a year younger)

I think their pace is roughly the same but Julian has a quicker first step to beat his man. Ferran's off the ball movement are definitely better but Julian, right now anyway, has much better striker or in the box IQ. I feel Julian is also better at pressing.
I have a hard time with this because Ferran has been playing at a much higher level. Argentinian football doesn’t demand much. On “striker IQ” especially I think Ferran has already improved so much in the past 12 months or even more (I remember him vs Germany, november 2020, extraordinary performance).

If I’m being honest, I don’t think Alvarez will be an important name in our squad in the coming years — which Ferran himself wasn’t, so no big deal there. I would love to be proven wrong. But as far as planning next season’s squad, I don’t think his presence changes anything

That's fair and I agree. The step up from River Plate in Argentina to the best team in the world in premier league is huge. He'll need to improve aspects of his game for sure to move the needle for our squad.

I like to think we buy a player with the knowledge that Txiki knows this player fits our system and is willing to come to us, while Pep and his team can make him very much better.

As it is now, that’s all except wait for the player to actually make his debut for us.

This is surely a backup striker option for the season after next. Great talent and exciting potential but not one for the "here and now".

To me there is more sense in bringing him in here and now than buying him for the future. At that fee, with two spare squad spaces, a player down that we began the season counting on, and no striker options to even attempt as an alternative in a tight game.

I'd rather see him come in now and get used to things under less pressure, than when he has to compete with a first choice striker and squad places are at a premium.
