Just had my dog put to sleep...

So sad to hear that, RIP Chester. We lost our 12 year old border terrier just before Christmas and were in pieces but gradually we're remembering more of the good times and the terrible sense of loss is more manageable.

get another dude

i lost my westie "Gio" 2 years ago and it broke my heart, i swore i would never get another coz i couldnt replace him and didnt want to go through that pain again

i lasted about a month, its just not the same without a dog around the house, who are you gonna talk to when you come in pissed and everyone is in bed? Who are you gonna take out for a walk so you can have a crafty fag/spliff? who are you gonna put a city scarf on when we win the league?

bite the bullet and get a rescue dog dude, i promise it will lessen your grief you will be doin it a massive favour.

dont know what side of manchester you are fella but bleakholt up in edenfield is a good place, you adopt them for life

i`ve got "marley" now and couldnt be happier, he`s a little belter

It's as bad as losing a family member... he was 13 and called Chester, I took this just before the vets arrived. I couldn't watch and let my parents deal with it. Dogs are the most amazing thing in the world.

We had a phone call from my dad in '97 who was completely heartbroken.

The love that they provide is truly unconditional and my parents love our dog.

I'm pretty much going to agree with everyone on here.

Really feel for you bud.

Our last Cocker Spaniel checked out 4 years ago just keeled over in the street whilst out for a walk 7 years old and bang! We were both devastated (no kids) however I took it upon myself to give the girl a proper burial in the garden it was the hardest thing I have ever done but looking back on it I was glad, I planted a load of tulips and daffy in the same spot so every year we get a nice reminder ( iam a soppy twat) saying that cocker spaniel 2 has probably marked that area well and truly.

My advice wait a few months dust yourself down and get another our house was very odd without a pooch.

Spot on.

Both of my parents dogs had a proper burial in the back garden.

I had to take my dog, Max, to be put to sleep over Xmas. He was 14 years old and he had the same tired eyes as Chester has. It's now 1 month on and I still can't get my head round the fact that he isn't here anymore. Still devastated, still cry and still miss him so much. I never thought that I would think of getting another dog but I feel so lonely without him, the thought has crossed my mind. I think the worse part is that you are the one who actually has to make that decision. I know that it was the right one for him and I'm sure it was for Chester.

Deepest sympathies mate. About 8 years ago I was in town on a night out and my dad phoned to say the dog had died I was in bits on deansgate felt a right nugget but I couldn't help it
